Geographically, Kush was the link between Egypt and Southern Africa. (Kush was on the Nile but the Nile was not as easily navigated in this portion.) Kush had many natural resources not plentiful or available in Egypt. Most importantly gold was plentiful in Kush, often called “Nubia” –“land of gold”. Unfortunately, the Assyrians were working their way South from Mesopotamia and Turkey along the Mediterranean coast conquering all.
