that character sees, hears, touches, and feels.
• Draw a simple outline of a famous person. You can choose a historical figure
or a present-day figure, such as a political leader, entertainer, athlete, actor, and
so on. Title the drawing with the name of the person.
• Complete the statement in each box to describe four important things this
person has seen, heard, touched, and felt (emotions) during his or her lifetime.
Draw a line from each statement to the corresponding body part on the figure

1. How did location and natural resources
help Kush?
Geographically, Kush was the link between Egypt
and Southern Africa. (Kush was on the Nile but the
Nile was not as easily navigated in this portion.)
Kush had many natural resources not plentiful or
available in Egypt. Most importantly gold was
plentiful in Kush, often called “Nubia” –“land of
gold”.
Section 2

In complete sentences, answer this question: In what ways did location influence
Kush during this time period?
Kush was in a convenient location to trade goods with the Egyptians downstream from them and to bring in
goods from upstream and overland to Southern Africa. Unfortunately, their proximity to Egypt sometimes
made them the victims of Egyptian invasions and forced to pay tribute.

In complete sentences, answer this question: In what ways did location influence
Kush during this time period?
Egypt was always easy for Kushites to reach but too powerful, now Kush was able to conquer Egypt that was
weakened by civil wars. Piye the King of Kush united the entire region and named himself “Uniter of the Two
Lands”. The new kingdom of Kush extended to the Mediterranean Sea, the entire area could be reached by
the Nile River.
Unfortunately, the Assyrians were working their way South from Mesopotamia and Turkey along the
Mediterranean coast conquering all. The region of Egypt was their last stop.
