JOB DESCRIPTION
Lens Based Media Technician
Job Purpose:
To provide technical support to the Lens Based Media department, with specific
responsibilities to the A Level and Applied Photography GCSE Film, Applied Media
Levels 2 and 3 and A Level Media courses in order to provide and maintain a high
quality offer to students.

Head of Department

Scale 3 of Support Staff Salary Spine
Working Hours:
Full time, term time only – 37 hours per week
Holidays:
College holidays
Pension:
Staff are enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme, a contributory
scheme with the option to opt out in a transitional period
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES









To provide technical support to teachers and students in the Lens Based Media Department,
particularly in the areas of Film and Media
To support and supervise students in executing their projects, including the use of relevant
software
To store student work and video material and keep an archive for access
To control, maintain and distribute stock in order to promote access for students, advising
Course Team Leaders on orders and liaising with the College Shop
Working with other members of the technician team, to liaise with the IT Services Department
on the upkeep and updating of the Lens Based Media Department’s Mac & PC hardware and
software
To co-ordinate booking systems for equipment as necessary
To liaise with other technical support staff in an attempt to avoid the duplication of jobs, seek
support from other specialists and share good practice
To be responsible for Health and Safety within areas of own responsibility
To contribute to self-assessment and review activities

 Knowledge of Mac and PC operating systems,
digital camera hardware and a range of
relevant software
 Experience of working with young people
 Able to work to a high standard using relevant
media software, including Photoshop, iMovie
&Final Cut Express
 High levels of technical and practical
competence
 Accuracy and care with equipment
 High level of safety awareness
 An understanding of basic stock control
 Clear and accurate written communication
 Excellent organisational skills with the ability to
prioritise
 Good communication, numeracy and IT skills
 Ability to multi-task and to be flexible
