Comprehension Questions –
Answer the following questions using information and details from the book. (2 points each)
1.
Explain why Young and Rhonna had to break-up before the dance happened.
Answer: Young and Rhonna had to break-up before the dance at school because Rob had an idea on how
to make Simon Glass popular. And the idea was to have Young break up with Rhonna so that Simon could
take her to the dance and since she was one of the popular girls in school, Simon could maybe get more
popular faster.
2.
Describe the way Simon felt when he was asked if he want to become popular by the guys when he got
done being bulled.
Answer: When the “gang” of popular guys came over to Simon after Lance was making fun of him I think
Simon was shocked. He was probably shocked because no popular people usually come over to him and
talk to him and want to actually help him become popular. Everyone new Simon as the nerdy and geeky
guy in school.
3.
Explain the way Rob was planning on turning Simon into a “popular” guy. Use support for you answer.
Answer: Rob was one of the popular guys in school, and he had a plan to make the geekiest guy turn into
another one of the popular guys. His plan to do that was to make him look better, talk more to people,
and have conversations with other people he didn’t know. And Rob also wanted him to know how to
“act” cool and drive, and to talk to popular girls at their school.
4.
Tell about the mini paragraphs at the beginning of each chapter.
Answer: At the beginning of each chapter there are mini paragraphs of people who knew the “gang” of
guys that killed Simon or just knew Simon in general. In the paragraphs they talked about how much of a
shock it was and how all of the guys that made the accident, weren’t really “bad” guys. All of the
paragraphs were foreshadowing what people said and thought after the accident of Simon.
5.
Explain the differences of Rob Haynes and Young Stewards personalities.
Answer: The differences between Rob and Young are that they are complete different people. Rob Haynes
seems like the type of guy that will be able to tell anyone what to do. He doesn’t seem to “care” for much
and or care for his friends. Young on the other hang seems to have a heart and does care for people in his
life. Although he does almost everything Rob says in the book, in the story we know he is a good hearted
guy. All he needs to do is stop being a follower.
6.
Describe the theme of popularity in the book. Use examples.
Answer: The theme of popularity is a huge part in this book. Rob and the gang help Simon Glass to get
popular. Farther along in the book, Rob and his friends start to break apart from being friends. Simon
does become popular and then dies because he knew secrets of all the guys in the group. And when the
guys heard, because Simon told them, they killed him. Popularity isn’t always a good thing, people always
think popular people are always happy and lucky. But an example of things going bad is when Simon does
get murdered.

Evaluation Questions –
Answer the following questions (5 points each)
1. Predict, using 2 characters from the story, and think of what happens when the accident happened. Be
sure to create a story for each. Support your answer with details from the book.
Answer: When the accident happened. I think that the guys probably all went to jail and did some time.
When everyone was out of jail, I have a feeling that Rhonna and Coop were still good friends after the
accident. Coop seemed like a good guy and Rhonna was just an awesome girl. In the book they said that
Coop wasn’t too good in school. So maybe since Rhonna is good in school, she could help Coop with the
subjects he needs help in.
2.
Rate the book. From a 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. Tell why you choose that and use support
from the book.
Answer: The book to me was about an eight. I rate it an eight because the author did a good job with the
book but it seemed like she left out things. Example would be that she kind of jumped around from
character to character and had a story for each.

Synthesis Questions –
Answer the following questions as best as you can. (6 points)
1.
Prepare a letter to Simon’s parents acting as Young.
Answer: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Glass,
Hi! It’s Young Steward. I was one of Simon’s former classmates and I was also at your house a
few times. I was actually in the room when the “accident” happened. I couldn’t believe me own eyes.
To see what was happening was intense. I am hoping the family is doing well. People at school are
shocked at what took place and all of the guys are either drop outs or they are still in jail. Rob actually
move states, again. I was thinking of writing this letter to you because I regret the whole day of when
he died. He was a great kid and I hope you guys see that in him. Because most of the times you guys
were there. I am writing this to make sure you know that he is missed and he will be remembered. He
was a great guy and always will be here in our hearts. I can never forgive myself, and or I could never
take it back. I am sorry.
Love, Young.

Application Question –
Read the following texts and use details from the story to translate the text. (3 points)
1.
2.
I sighed and sat on the bench next to her. “I knew I couldn’t do this. And I knew you wouldn’t go for
the story, but I couldn’t tell Rob why you wouldn’t believe it. You’re right, it was special and it was
just us”
Answer:
Translating: In the text, this is when Young had to tell Rhonna, his at the time girlfriend, that he
needed to break up with her. He had to break up with her because Rob told him that when they
break up, that Simon would go out with her and then Simon would become more popular. But Young
had a hard time telling Rhonna because he really liked her.
My mouth dried, and my tongue felt thick. Swallowing hard, I looked at my frog, which sat unaware,
blinking slowly, puffing his milky throat in and out.
Answer:
Translating: In this text, it sounds like one of the guys, or girls are about to cut open and frog. The
way they’re talking, seems like they don’t really like frogs and might get sick from cutting open the
frog. When the mouth gets dried maybe the person was worrying a lot about it and it made him
nervous a little bit.
