Harappan Civilization By David Hooker LOCATION The Harappan civilization is located in Ancient India on the Indus River Valley. In what is known as today as Pakistan. The 2 Major cities are Mohenjo Daro and Harappa, they are 375 miles apart Government Religion We really don’t know much about their government because we are unable to translate the language. The one thing we know is they existed and their cities were a complex and organized system. The Harappan’s were polytheistic they believed in many Gods. Many of their gods were represented by animals: elephants, cows, etc. In the cities there were temples and statues were found. Agriculture Is the science of cultivating land and raising of livestock. The Indus River is very fertile and the Harappans had a very good irrigation system for growing a variety of crops, mainly cereal crops of wheat and barley. They also depended on the Monsoon season. Culture The harappans were a proud civilization and lived in a very structured and complex society. This is obvious because of the way their planned cities were laid out and built. Streets were straight, Homes had plumbing, Stores and workshops along the streets, and a Citadel for protection. Science The Harappans made advancements in irrigation, architecture. Their cities had sewer systems, indoor plumbing, and the city itself was structured architecturally. Advancements in irrigation increase farming production.
