Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau Claire Constitution
Article I: Name and Purpose
Section 1: The name of this organization is Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau
Claire.
Section 2: The purpose of this organization will be to raise awareness on campus of the
Foundation, Telefund and the benefits of charitable giving back to UW-Eau Claire. We want to
show how the work of the Foundation benefits students.
Section 3: Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau Claire will be responsible for the
observance of the rules and regulations established by the university.
Article II: Membership
Section 1: Members of the organization must be UW-Eau Claire students, faculty, or staff
members. Membership will be granted at any time to anyone interested in joining after one
meeting is attended. Members do not have to be employed by Telefund or the Foundation to be
included in membership.
Section 2: Consistent with all applicable federal and state laws and university policies, this
organization and its subordinate bodies, officers and members shall not discriminate for or
against any person by reason of age, gender, marital or parental status, race, creed or religion,
color, sexual orientation, national origin or ancestry, or physical handicap.
Section 3: The primary control of the Student Philanthropy Organization of UW- Eau Claire rests
with the student members.
Section 4: The Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau Claire will not use funds collected
from member dues, fees, or collaborative fundraising efforts to purchase alcohol that can only be
consumed by members who are of legal drinking age and to purchase promotional materials for
unofficial event that can only be attended by those of legal drinking age.
Section 5: The Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau Claire must hold all official
meetings and official events requiring attendance in facilities and establishments that allow
persons of any age entry.
Article III: Officers
Section 1: Officer positions and duties
1. President
a. The President will preside over and manage the regularly scheduled meetings.
b. The President will work collaboratively with other governing officers within the
organization.
c. The President will represent the Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau
Claire positively on and off campus.
2. Vice-President
a. The Vice-President will perform all duties of the president as a result of an
absence.
b. The Vice-President will perform any other duties assigned by the president.
c. The Vice-President will represent the Student Philanthropy Organization of UWEau Claire positively on and off campus.
3. Secretary
a. The Secretary will manage all membership rosters, provide information to
members through various forms of communication and will document meeting
minutes.
b. The Secretary will perform any other duties assigned by the president.
c. The Secretary will represent the Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau
Claire positively on and off campus.
4. Treasurer
a. The Treasurer will manage all funds of the Student Philanthropy Organization of
UW-Eau Claire.
b. The Treasurer will perform any other duties assigned by the president.
c. The Treasurer will represent the Student Philanthropy Organization of UW-Eau
Claire positively on and off campus.
Section 2: Length of term and time of election
1. The terms of all officers shall be for one academic year.
2. The holding of an officer position shall be restricted to full or part-time students in good
academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above).
3. Election of all officers shall be conducted at the end of the spring semester of each
academic year.
a. At the end of the spring semester a fair and democratic election of officers will be
employed.
i. The advisor will accept nominations for all positions available for
election.
ii. A confirmation and acceptance for the nomination must be recorded by
the secretary.
iii. A “secret balloting” system will be used for tallying of votes for each
position.
iv. “Quorum” is established when one half of members are present.
v. Newly elected officers will assume their official duties after the tallying
and confirmation of ballots by student members.
vi. In the event an officer is unable to fulfill term of office, a replacement will
be elected at a regular, or if necessary, at a special meeting.
Article IV: Advisor
Section 1: Appointment of Advisor
1. The advisor must be a UW-Eau Claire faculty, academic staff, classified or administrative
staff member.
2. The advisor shall be appointed by the organization by unanimous decision.
a. If officers and student members are undecided, the President must make the
decision.
Section 2: Duties of Advisor
1. The role of our advisor is to attend regular meetings.
2. Duties of advisor will be stated in the UW-Eau Claire Student Services and Standards
Handbook.
Article V: Amendments
Section 1: Making an amendment to the constitution
1. Previous notification of an amendment shall be in writing to all members of the
organization.
2. An amendment shall be passed, given that two-thirds affirmative vote of members voting
for its adoption.
3. The constitution will be reviewed and updated a minimum of once every three years.
Section 2: Constitutions on file at the Student Organizations Complex, Davies Center will be
deemed official by the university and Student Senate.
Bylaws
Section 1: Members shall be a positive representative of the UW- Eau Claire Foundation at all
times and their membership can be terminated if they do not follow this overarching law, as
determined by the advisor and the officers.
Section 2: The method for amending the bylaws will be a majority vote of all members.
Section 3: Bylaws will be established and accepted each academic year by newly elected
officers, according to their direction and leadership.
