New Research Grant Funding Program
ANZUP’s mission is to conduct clinical trials research to improve treatment of bladder, kidney,
prostate and testicular cancers. ANZUP is multidisciplinary and aims to assess a broad range of
treatment interventions and management strategies to improve outcomes.
In 2015 the ANZUP Board reviewed our Strategic Plan for the next 3 years. The 5 key goals are:
 Expand, diversify maximise quality trials;
 Increase engagement;
 Develop sustainable and innovative funding;
 Maintain & enhance mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders;
 Expand and broaden ANZUP’s profile;
In line with the strategic plan we have established a New Research Grant Funding program to
support and promote our members in the development of investigator initiated studies from
initial concept to full study.
Up to $150,000 has been set aside in 2015/16 to support up to four projects which may be:
a. A young or new investigator’s study.
b. Innovative sub-studies.
c. Pilot studies (including generating data to support preparation for a larger research project
or pre-clinical research).
d. Seed funding for a high priority ANZUP study.
Eligible Research Projects will be:





Consistent with ANZUP’s strategic plan and in line with our mission and objectives;
Involve endpoints that are feasible within the proposed time frame
Include multidisciplinary members in the research team;
Able to be linked to future grant applications or other funding opportunities if required;
Expected to build capacity and/or collaborations for ANZUP and have the potential to lead
to a future ANZUP clinical trial.

Applicants are ANZUP members with a minimum of twelve months membership and a track
record of being active contributor to our activities;
Project must have direct alignment with ANZUP research priorities.
Grant period can be no longer than 12 months.
Maximum grant request $30,000.
Grant funding year is January to December.
Assessment and Notification
A grant panel will be appointed by the ANZUP SAC to assess the applications and will include
consumer representation.
The grant panel recommendations will be submitted to the SAC for final approval.
Final recommendation for funding of research projects will be decided by Grant Review
Panel but the following specific criteria will be used as part of the review and selection
process;





Scientific excellence, i.e. quality of research methods (20%);
Significance and/or innovation (20%);
Feasibility, i.e. likelihood of successful completion (20%);
Alignment with goals and objectives of ANZUP (20%);
Potential to leverage additional funds (20%).

Board, SAC, CAP and experienced investigators. They will review all the grant applications
against agreed criteria which will be reviewed annually.
