Start the Earth Layers Foldable 1. Desk Copy Color the Earth's interior layers (both diagrams) according to the key below: Water=blue, Land=green, Ocean Crust=darker brown Continental Crust=lighter brown, ----- aka Lithosphere =crusts +upper mantle Mantle=(upper) yellow, Mantle (middle) lighter orange, ---------aka Athenosphere=middle mantle Mantle-(lower) darker orange, Outer Core-orange-ish red, Inner Core-red 2. Cut out and paste one set of layers onto the inside right hand portion of the foldout. Snip out one set of labels (terms) and paste onto the appropriate layers on the inside diagram of the foldout. 3. Cut out the other set of layers and paste onto the outside front of the foldout. (no labels/terms) 4. Cut out and paste the info boxes into the appropriate square on the inside left part of the foldout. 5. Use the textbooks in the room, purple book (pp. 51-53) and orange book (pp. 167-169), to fill in the statistics on the white info boxes for the: -composition (rocky, metallic, rocky/metallic), -thickness (how many km thick), and -state of matter (solid, liquid or gas). 6. Use the purple book (pp. 51-53) and orange book (pp. 167-169), as well as the power point below to come up with 3 VIPs for each of the layers (Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core).
