Muon Commissioning Meeting 10 August 2009 Present: Antonio, Davide, Fernando, Giovanni and Burkhard Online: Roberta Muon System Status – week 32 • Due to network problems the online cluster, DBs etc. were not operational from Monday to Thursday. Therefore work resumed only on Friday. As a consequence not much progress has been made with the timing tests etc. • Due to missing pieces the progress with the turbine was very slow. Only today we received 2 turbines for re-installation. M25C should be complete4d this week, M1 next week. Issues related to the LHCb general planning (Burkhard): • The re-installation of the access structures on the bunker extension for A- and C-side is scheduled for the 2nd part of August and should be completed by August 31. The accessstructures should be sufficient for the remaining interventions planned on the chambers. • The LHC TED run is now scheduled for September 26/27 without LHCb participation (due to the Florence LHCb week). A TED run with LHCb participation has been requested for a weekend in October. No date fixed yet. Therefore there is no urgent need any longer to close M1 and the rest of detector in the week of August 31. • We should aim at completing our interventions by September 11, so that we can close M1 (and subsequently the calorimeters) in the week of September 14, the week prior to the LHCb week. Like that we are ready for the Global commissioning week scheduled for the week of September 28. Moving control for M1: • According to the present planning of LNF, this should be completed in the week of September 7. A delay should be avoided, so the system can be commissioned and used in the week of September 14. DSS issues (Burkhard): • The thresholds for water leak detection, mainly on M25 C-side, need to be raised to avoid the frequent DSS alarms we get at present. To be done when Laurent and Nikolai are back from vacation. PVSS for HV system and GEM HV system (Giovanni): • Michela Lenzi comes on August 14 to CERN and will work on the upgrade of the projects to PVSS 3.8 and the integration of the GEM HV in the overall PVSS HV project. • Powering of the GEMs with HV foreseen for the week of August 24 with Farbizio et al. Two channels of the GEM gas system don’t work at present should be investigated before HV is put on. Continuation of timing tests (Antonio/Dimtry/Fernando): • • First round of connectivity and phase tests has been completed for A- and C-side: A-side: 17/24 are ok; C-side: 20/24 are ok. Time alignment has been done for 14 HUs (which passed successfully the first round) on the A-side and for 9 (good) HUs on the C-side. ECS activities (Davide): • Davide summarized the plans for optimizing the threshold and HV settings of the Muon system (for details have a look at the slides uploaded to the agenda page). • The plans are as follows (updated with respect to the slides): – Week 10/08-14/08 (Davide + Giovanni + Lukas): debugging and threshold scan at 110 r.u. – Week 17/08-21/08 (Giacomo + Antonio + Lukas): noise runs – Week 24/08-28/08 (Giacomo + Antonio + Lukas): cosmics at HV= 2650V. A Muon stand-alone trigger (M3 in AND) will have to be used because the calorimeters will be still open to allow M1 interventions. – Week 31/08-04/09 Global Commissioning week – Week 14/09-25/09 : cosmics at HV=2550V and HV=2450V – Week 28/08-02/10 Global Commissioning week – Week 05/10-09/10 : cosmics at optimal HV/thresholds a la Walter – – Week 12/10-16/10 : cosmics at optimal HV/thresholds a la Anatoli A.o.B. Next muon commissioning meeting will take place Monday August 31 at 14:30 at the pit – unless Fernando sees the need to call for a meeting also on August 24, in two weeks from now.
