ESM 2 Comparison of vegetation composition from survey (s) and pollen (p) data
Terminology is based on original data, where purple moor-grass refers to Molinia caerulea, heather is Calluna vulgaris, cottongrass is Eriophorum and matgrass is Nardus stricta. Differences in terminology reflect classification changes between vegetation surveys. Data refer to localised vegetation around each
sampling site, with adjacent communities indicated in parentheses. Data derived from Moss (1913), Eyre (1966) for 1950-51, and land-cover maps (19902007, ©NERC/CEH); NS = not surveyed. Data for 1913 and 1982 provided by Martin Dallimer (from RES-227-25-0028)
