The staff at SMVC would like to welcome your new kitten/cat to the family.
Below you will find our guidelines for vaccinating your newest addition.
( From the American Association of Feline Practitioners-2006 guidelines)
Distemper (FVRCP):
Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia.
It is recommended to start this vaccine at 8 weeks of age. Then a booster shot is given at 12 and
16 weeks.
Another vaccine is given at 1 year of age, then due again in 3 years.
This vaccine is then given every 3 years.
Rabies:
It is recommended to start this vaccine at 12 or 16 weeks of age, then again at 1 year.
This vaccine is then given every year.
Feline Leukemia Vaccine (FELV):
This vaccine is considered a non-core vaccine. Meaning not essential, but recommended.
It is recommended that all kittens/cats are tested for FELV/FIV before giving the vaccine.
It is recommended to start this vaccine at 10-12 weeks of age, and then booster at 14-16 weeks.
This vaccine is then given every year (if
