1 Course Approval Process – Elon London Center It is your responsibility to know and meet the requirements for graduation from Elon. You must make sure that study abroad for a semester in London will allow you to graduate on time. If you are studying abroad your senior year, you must complete a graduation audit with the Associate Registrar before departing Elon for this study abroad program. 1. Part A: Supply the student information requested. 2. Part B: List the term you’ll be in London. 3. Part C: Course Information: Determine which Elon graduation requirements you need to fulfill during the semester you will be abroad. In the column “I wish to satisfy the Elon requirement indicated” check the appropriate category box and specify the requirement and/or exact Elon course you hope to satisfy. (NOTE: If you need the course only for credit toward the 132 semester hours required for the bachelor’s degree but not toward any other specific category or requirement, check “Free Elective.”) Review the FIE list of courses for the semester you wish to attend and select the courses you would like to take based on the graduation requirement you need to fulfill. Review the course descriptions from the host institution and the course equivalencies form. Choose which Key Course (middle column) you intend to take. List the Elon requirement (left column) you would like the key course to count toward. Choose which Experiential Learning Course (middle column) you intend to take. List the Elon requirement (left column) you would like the experiential learning course to count toward. **If you wish for your experiential learning course to count toward departmental credit, you must secure approval from the appropriate department chair before meeting with the Associate Registrar. Your department chair will sign this form. Exception: If you are a business or communications major, you do NOT need department chair approval. Select whether you will take the Upper-Level GST Interdisciplinary Seminar (optional). List six electives (middle column) in the order of preference. List the Elon requirements (left column) you would like these elective courses to count toward. You will not be registered for every course. However, securing course approval for alternatives will allow you to switch courses if course availability or expectations change while you are in country. 4. Part E: Based on the courses you hope to take during your semester abroad, list the courses or requirements you plan to take the semester you return to Elon. This will make preregistration for your returning semester easier. 5. Meet with your advisor to review your choices. This meeting is for your advisor to review the graduation requirements you hope to meet and your preliminary academic plan for the semester you return to Elon. Course equivalents are determined by the Office of the Registrar. Your advisor must sign the approval form before you meet with the Associate Registrar. 6. Meet with the Associate Registrar. Schedule an appointment by stopping by Alamance 102 or calling 336-278-6677. Bring this completed form to the appointment. 7. The Associate Registrar will take the signed form to the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center (GEC). The GEC will then upload your completed Course Request Form to the “documents” section of your application in Elon Abroad. 2 Course Request Form - Elon Study Abroad Program Student must complete Parts A, B, C and E Knowing how the individual classes will count at Elon, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure the courses taken abroad allow completion of degree requirements by the intended graduation date and to secure any required department chair approvals before leaving Elon for the study abroad program in London.
