Reports to: Pippa Rodger, International Director of Communications Location: London Main purpose of job: This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to create and deliver an internal communications and engagement strategy for World Animal Protection that works across four levels: Communicating our global strategy in a way that is inspiring, meaningful and instantly understood by all staff, so that they feel highly engaged and clear on their personal contribution to delivering the strategy and achieving our global ambition for animals Engaging key stakeholders – including the Global Leadership Team, the International Board and other senior leaders across the organisation in our internal communications approach, training them to become advocates across the organisation Develop a global internal communications framework across five regions and multiple communication vehicles, that ensures that all staff are continually informed about significant organisational developments and achievements Working closely with the staff engagement team to embed our culture across the organisation There is a degree of autonomy and self-sufficiency required in this role. The successful candidate will be able to operate at a high strategic level, while also delivering more hands-on tactical initiatives, such as the fortnightly staff newsletter and intranet updates. Position in organisation Reporting in to the International Director of Communications This role has no direct reports but will work closely with the Global Leadership Team (in particular the COO), Global Senior Management Team, the Asia-Pacific Internal Communications Manager, Intranet Manager, Head of HR and Organisational Development Manager and team Works with the Global Brand Manager to ensure that all communications to staff are aligned with the World Animal Protection brand and consistent on a global level This role sits within the International Communications team, whose role is to: Set the global strategy and budget for Communications that supports the delivery of the organisational vision and priorities (Vision 2020) Ensure that strategy is delivered and achieves maximum impact globally Ensure there are clear frameworks, KPIs and guidance to the organisation at an International, Regional and Country level to support the delivery of the global strategy Lead global communications programmes of work Scope of the role Developing and delivering the global internal communications strategy and framework, constantly monitoring impact and feedback from staff Providing expert advice and strategic plans which deliver internal information requirements in times of change or need for rapid communications Developing and communicating content that communicates our purpose: o Researching and writing in an informative, relevant and compelling way to communicate organisational news for the intranet and global newsletters o o o o Reviewing the internal comms channels and tools we have available and using creativity to package content for different audiences whilst driving engagement Preparing communication resources to support line managers and senior management in their key role as part of the communication chain, encouraging a culture of communication Ensuring tone of voice is consistent and on brand across all internal comms channels Managing the Intranet homepage and News Centre, regularly reviewing content to monitor its accuracy and relevance, giving guidance to content owners to maintain excellent standards Working closely with the Global Leadership Team and Chief Executive to ensure a consistent two way flow of communication and engagement between staff and leadership. Working closely with the COO and Organisational Development team on staff engagement, leadership and management programme, embedding the organisational culture and induction process Person spec Experience Demonstrable experience leading an internal communications function within a complex organisation or providing strategic internal communications advice in a complex environment (desirable: experience of working in an international organisation) Proven track record of managing and delivering communications through a variety of channels Proven ability to respond to and deal with potential reputation management issues, acting with tact and diplomacy, while maintaining strict confidentiality Experience in supporting change programmes. Understanding of complexities of working in a global organisation Awareness, understanding of and commitment to stay on top of the latest internal communications developments and practices and bringing that into World Animal Protection Experience of using innovative communications channels and tools for internal communications purposes Skills and Abilities Outstanding communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels and present complex information in a simple way Creative and innovative with strong problem solving abilities Proven ability to influence and negotiate at all levels A diplomatic individual, with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills; able to tackle communication issues sensitively and with total discretion Strong IT literacy and experience of working in web-based software, in particular Microsoft SharePoint and external email marketing service providers such as MailChimp and familiarity with HTML; interest in using the latest technology to drive organisational engagement Proven ability to prioritise workload and meet strict deadlines Excellent and proven writing ability
