MVCS Job Description RtI & GT Consultant Overview Reports to the Academic Director 15-20 hours per week, 41 weeks per year Most work done on-site Reviewed annually Position Description: An RtI & GT Consultant assists staff, students, and their families as they navigate the RtI & GT processes—collaborating with other learning team members (student, parents, teachers, family advisor, and additional staff as needed) and families, monitoring RtI or GT progress, continually building knowledge of interventions, and providing some direct instruction/oversight for RtI/GT students. Specific Responsibilities of the Job: Collaborate with other Learning Team Members Train Academic Advisors on the RtI process and interventions, as well as on Gifted/Talented options. Consult as needed with Academic Advisors on developing and maintaining Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) regarding how to apply RtI and GT. Identify and facilitate the use of resources for students. Help Academic Advisors determine how growth and achievement toward gradelevel proficiency will be monitored for RtI and GT students. Maintain communication with Academic Advisors to ensure that progress on learning goals is reviewed and documented, PLPs are adjusted as needed to support students in achieving the learning goals, and the students’ successes and challenges are discussed and addressed as needed for RtI and GT students. Meet with families about RtI and GT issues. Collaborate with the SPED department. Collaborate with the Assessment department regarding accommodations. Maintain scheduled office hours. Schedule and direct 504 team meetings as needed Monitor Student RtI or GT Progress Maintain spreadsheet to track RtI tier status and progress; IEP, 504, or GT status; needs for accommodations, areas of concern, and recommendations for future learning. Recommend alternative interventions. VERSION 4.22.15 1 Work with GT students and families to ensure that the Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) is followed. Continually Build Knowledge of Interventions Research and become familiar with a wide variety of interventions as they become available. Provide Direct Instruction/Oversight for RtI/GT students Provide a weekly lab for students to come do RtI with guidance at MVCS. Meet with GT students as needed Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of federal and state educational requirements including the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS). Understanding of traditional and alternative educational methods and approaches (experience with the schooling at home preferred). Understanding of the Response to Intervention paradigm Ability to interpret and enact the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Familiarity with various interventions (experience preferred), Ability to work with a diverse group of people to provide support and information. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to listen for understanding, communicate clearly and respectfully, build positive and supportive relationships, and create an environment for problem solving and working toward consensus. Excellent organizational skill to write, collect, and document data and information. Familiarity with Enrich preferred. Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Education & Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Colorado Teacher’s Certificate or demonstration of subject matter competency (successful completion of Praxis or Place test in Elementary Education). Must be—or be willing to become—highly qualified in GT. Must be able to pass a background check.
