Annotated Bibliography of a YA Novel
Blount, Patty. Some Boys. Sourcebooks Fire, 2014. Paperback Print.
Blount’s offers a great story about sexual harassment for young adults. Some Boys
is a story where Grace drank too much at a party and her ex-boyfriend rapes her. People
do not believe her because Zac is the golden boy and Grace is known as the weird person
because of the way she dresses, mostly in black. Grace goes through depression and must
face people who disrespect her and call her a liar, including her ex best friends and her
father. Ian is the only person who believes Grace. At first, Grace did not want to trust Ian
because he is Zac’s best friend.
In the novel, Grace is heroic because she overcomes everything and fights for
justice and in order for people to believe her. This novel can be used in classrooms to
teach about sexual harassment, rape, friendships, and bullying. Blount wrote the novel in
divided chapters between Grace’s perspective and Ian’s perspective.
