PLYMOUTH CREEK ELEMENTARY PTO MEETING MINUTES Date: September 16, 2014 9:30 a.m. Location: Plymouth Creek Elementary Commons Meeting called to order by: Myrna Sitrin, PTO President Introductions and Agenda Principal’s Report: Principal Sarabeth deNeui: ! We are off to a great start this school year; this is her 3rd year at PCE. ! Added another section of all-day kindergarten this year to accommodate all the full day kindergarteners. ! 745 students ! K- 6 sections ! 1 - 6 sections ! 2 - 6 sections ! 3 - 5 sections ! 4 - 5 sections ! 5 - 5 sections ! All day kindergarten going well. ! Switched recess and lunch around; students are eating more lunch now. Downside is lack of hand washing after recess, but the commons has hand sanitizer. Kids are still allowed to wash hands as needed. ! PLC time still occurs after lunch. ! New staff hired: 2 kindergarten teachers, 1 2nd grade teacher and Ms. Janish moved from 3rd grade to 5th grade. ! Parking lot/drop off; seems to be running more smoothly. Please continue to follow the drop off/pick up rules to ensure children are getting to/from school safely. Approval of old minutes Officers’ Reports: ! A. President’s Report: PTO goals were discussed. This is a great learning community with a supportive staff. We really want the kids to feel part of the community. We welcome all volunteers. ! B.Treasurer’s Report (Karin Poellinger): 2014/15 budget reviewed and approved. Thanks to those who have already turned in their Family Pledge. Your contribution makes a significant difference. ! ! Community Service Night will be in conjunction with our Noodles Fundraiser this year. Both events are held on the same night and all proceeds raised at Noodles will go to support the Community Service Night. ! ! Possible addition of the 5th grade play to the budget? Committee Reports: ! Traffic/Parking Lot (Christine Connolly) Thank you to volunteers, especially Jenny Anderson who have helped monitor the drop off/pick up these last couple weeks. Please remember that children are to exit curbside, parents are to stay in the car when they drop off/pick up. This helps to keep everyone safe and keep the flow of traffic moving. Please pull up to the crosswalk; 1st three cars are to let their kids out and then pull away, allowing the next 3 cars to pull up. Perhaps will have crossing guards not only after school, but also in the morning? When at school for field trips, please park in the church lot across the street. ! Gift Wrap: (Shauna Mignone) Sales began 9/11 and will run through 9/25. “Who Let the Dogs Out?!” is our theme this year. We hope to raise $20,000 for the PTO this year. This is our only fundraiser and we ask that you participate in our fundraiser. Packets are due back in school 9/25. ! Partners in Art: (Camie Christensen) A fun program where parents go into their child’s classroom and teach an art class. Curriculum and props are provided. Two classes are offered to teach volunteers what they need to know. No experience is needed! Usually 1class/month. 9/30 and 10/2 are the training sessions. Sock Hop: (Vera Spanowsky) The Sock Hop is going to be on Friday, 10/24/14 from 79pm. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, contact Vera Spanowsky at vspanowsky@gmail.com. This will be a very fun event, with poodle skirts, dancing, jumpers and games; 50’s and 80’s join together for a new twist! Please join us for our annual fall event. ! District Liason: (Camie Christensen) This is a group of people (usually 1 person/ school) who meet once a month to help keep clear communications amongst the schools. Watch your e-news for upcoming parenting classes that the district is providing. ! Favorite Things: (Kristin Dohm) There will be a binder in the office called “Our Faculties Favorite Things”.
