COURT BROOKLINE #488 – Brookline, MA November 2015

“Catholic Daughters of the Americas strives to embrace the principles of faith, working through love in the promotion of justice, equality, and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all.”

Dear Officers, Members, Fr. Clary, Joyce Ann, and Friends,

Greetings and Blessings! The frost is on the pumpkin but our Lord’s beauty of the season is not curtailed. October is a special month for our Blessed Mother and here in

Court Brookline we joyfully honored her with the crowning of Mary by our Court

Secretary, Kathleen Thieson after which those members present, collectively said the

Magnificat. Fr. Brian Clary told of his visit to the Holy Land and his presence in the chamber of congress when Pope Francis spoke lovingly to the legislatures. Besides our own Court members, two parishioners and a visiting Brother joined us and seemed to be impressed. Due to circumstances beyond our control, District Deputy Joyce was unable to carry out the financial review (audit), but must do so by January 1 st . So if your dues are not up-to-date, there is time to pay the $30.00 for the year which includes state and national dues and correspondence. To those who have taken care of their financial responsibilities, we are very grateful!

CDA Happenings

LOCAL:

Boston strong but CDA friends stronger At the October 17 th State Gathering,

State Regent Maureen Trainor sadly announced the disbandment of Court Everett #324 after 98 years a strong court whose legacy lives on. As great supportive friends to Court

Brookline, Past Regent Lorraine DiMilla sent us a $50.00 donation to the Bean Supper and in honor of two dedicated PSR, Rita Cannilas and Rosemary McHatten donated their

Court banner to use at our upcoming 95 th anniversary in December…. Your Regent has invited the members of Court Everett to join our Court since we meet in the daytime – which was part of their problem. Pray for them as they continue to be strong CDA members.

Baked bean supper update given Co-chairman Judy Kashalena and her

committee met last Friday to update the status. A preliminary report showed us that we were actually printed for two weeks in the bulletin coupled with the priestly push – many parishioners will attend the evening on November 7 th . A fun night is guaranteed! If you have not sent your raffle tickets of $1.00 each to either Judy or your Regent, please do so

Baked bean supper (cont’d) by November 1 st . Of course, they may also be returned at the door. May we count on you to make this a successful event?

In November we remember our loved ones who are in heaven As usual, we will be holding an appropriate ceremony for those members and/or family who passed away. If you would like us to remember a specific person, please let your Regent know via a phone call as soon as possible. God bless all of them and those in need of our prayers.

Sharing Thanksgiving with the less fortunate As usual, we ask our members to please bring several canned goods and/or monies to the November meeting on

November 8 th . The canned goods will be delivered to Brookline’s Food Pantry and turkeys will be given to the parish to distribute. We thank our beloved Pope who reminds us to share the bounty with our community as a service to the poor and needy.

95 th anniversary plans discussed It was decided that a 95 th anniversary was a very special accomplishment and needs more than cake and ice cream. It was suggested that after the Sunday Mass offered in celebration at St. Mary’s by our beloved Chaplain that a short trip over to the Waterford Restaurant on Route 109 where we would offer a hearty brunch for the members and our sisters in Christ for a fee of $25.00 per person with a few guests was in order. Complete details will be discussed at our November business meeting on November 8 th , 2015. We have so much of which to be proud of and appropriate presentations to be awarded. Keep your eyes on the prize for details to be announced.

STATE:

October 17 th Gathering A successful first gathering was held in Easton on

October 17 th with an inspirational interactive workshop given by our Supervisor Regentelect, Helene Shepard. There was a concelebrated Mass with our State Chaplain, Fr.

William Salmon and Fr. Leo Polselli, HCFM. Prayers were said by Sister Eileen Powers our State Spiritual Supervisor. There were about 75 women present with Patty Fegan and your Regent numbered among them. Perhaps for your Regent, Patty and Brenda

McIntyre the most moving activity was the pinning of Pat Devine PSR’s pin onto Judi

Shooter’s jacket which is a tradition here in Massachusetts over the years. Speaking of traditions, the PSR without fanfare presented Maureen a few special gifts to lead her well on her two year journey as our State Regent with much love and prayers.

NATIONAL:

CDA prayers encouraged The National Supervisor asked for prayers from every

court in support of the CDA pilgrimage to Rome and to Medjuorje in November. The

National Regent asked for prayers for Pope Francis as the prelates meet in

Rome regarding the family and its pro-life mission. The Pope reminds us that we must not condemn the people but condemn the sinful act. He further explains that although many religious and lay people have misread his statement, he is against gay same sex marriage and only condones a marriage between a man and woman. Please pray for the

Pope as he prepares for the sacred holidays and a trip in the spring to Mexico. Follow his message on Cardinal O’Malley’s blog and /or the

Pilot newspaper.

New CDA horizons to be reached On December 1 st , 2015 Shirley Seyfried and her husband as well as Helene Shepard and Fr. Ed Lamp will travel to Kenya, Africa to institute a virgin court of 200 women with much enthusiasms and love. Please keep them in your prayers and watch for complete coverage and pictures in the upcoming SHARE magazine.

Your National and State Board wishes you a blessed and happy Thanksgiving with

SOARS newly published
