Getting your attention
Getting your attention
To get your attention I will give you the Time-Out
signal. When your attention has been requested,
you have three seconds to stop what you’re doing,
stop talking, put down your pencil, look at me
(make eye contact), and listen so I can tell you the
next set of instructions. You should not be writing,
turned around backwards, or talking to your
neighbor once the time is up.

You must be completely in the door before the
bell rings to begin class or you are tardy. Once the
bell rings, you are silently getting started – your
notebook is open to homework and warm-ups and
your pencil is sharpened. Quietly complete warmups and be ready to discuss them. Warm-ups are
graded. All warm-ups MUST be in your notebook
and on the correct warm-up page.

Ms. Castillo Rules and Procedures 2015-2016 FAMMS
Welcome to 7th grade math. We are here to give
you choices in life. Math 1 is required to graduate
from high school and most colleges require you to
complete Math 3 to be admitted. Your work here
will prepare you for success in those classes and
beyond. More importantly, though, what you
learn here will help you in life. We are here so you
can make change when the cash register is broken
or figure out which box of cereal is the better deal.
We are here so you can adjust your recipe for
more or less people, understand how much you’re
really paying with your car loan, and calculate just
how long it will take you to drive to Grandma’s
house. The skills you gain here will be some of the
most valuable you will learn so LEARN THEM
WISELY!!!!!
The point of this class is to learn, NOT to collect
points, therefore, DO NOT ASK how many points
something is worth. If an assignment is worth
giving it is worth doing no matter how many
points it is worth or how much it will affect your
grade.
School Rules:
Take Care of yourself
Take care of each other
Take care of the school
Homework & Grading
You will get the homework for the entire
week every Monday. Every Friday you will
have a quiz with some problems taken directly
from the homework. You will be allowed to
use your homework as you complete the quiz.
Every Friday I will collect your homework. 5
points per day x 4 days worth of homework =
20 pts a week. If you do not turn in the fully
stamped homework, you have 1 week to turn
it in for late credit. We will also review
homework answers from the night before,
each day in class. Every Friday you will also
have a test or quiz to assess your knowledge
of the skills we’ve worked on that unit and
earlier. These quizzes and tests are worth
70% of your grade.
Homework Consequences
Every Wednesday I will walk around and
stamp your Monday & Tuesday homework
assignments. If one of them is missing or
incomplete, you will be assigned a
homework detention for the following day
(Thursday). If you fix and complete the
homework before the assigned detention,
the detention will be dismissed. I will also
come around and stamp every Friday,
stamping Wednesday and Thursday
homework assignments, however no
detention will be given at that point.
Academic Help
Sometimes you will have difficulty with a
certain concept we are learning. If so, it is
your responsibility to come ask me about
your questions after school. I am available
Thursday from 2-2:30 for questions. I ask
that if you plan on attending tutoring on
Thursdays, that you please come prepared
with problems to ask. The problems can be
from notes, homework or past
tests/quizzes. You will write your problems
up on the whiteboard, and then I will watch
you solve them one by one.
