IOWA GIRLS’ COACHES ASSOCIATION 2014 ASSISTANT VOLLEYBALL COACH OF THE YEAR Denise Brobst, South Central Calhoun Denise taught in the high school and junior high here at Southern Cal/South Central Calhoun for over 25 years. She is certainly one of the best teachers I have ever seen and her students absolutely love her. She spent 7 years coaching junior high volleyball and a couple years with junior high basketball when the district had trouble filling that position. Denise has spent the last 15 years as my junior varsity volleyball coach and I can say I would have traded her for no one. During the season her duties as assistant varsity and junior varsity coach are obviously many. She has prepared many junior varsity players to step into huge varsity roles while assisting me in making our varsity the best they can be. Her value to the program during the off-season has been huge. Denise coaches our junior high AAU teams at practices and takes them to tournaments while receiving no pay. In the summer months, Denise has spent countless hours at open gyms, weight room sessions, and league matches. Again, these hours she donates for free. She gives up more time coaching at team camps and individual camps during the summer. Lastly, Denise has always tried to better herself as a coach by attending coaching clinics and classes and reading and researching the latest techniques or strategies to help her athletes succeed. She has truly been in it for the kids and not herself. This is Denise's last season coaching and I can think of no one more deserving of an award! Wade Voith South Central Calhoun Head Volleyball Coach Ree Pederson-Moore, Lake Mills Ree has been with the program for 17 seasons as my assistant. She has been the freshmen coach and varsity assistant during those years. The additional duties Ree completes for us is the amazing part. She puts together our team booklet at the end of the year and organizes individual prizes for every member of our team. She finds small prizes that match something unique about each player. She helps the freshmen organize gifts at camp to the seniors for all they do. Ree build’s our team unity as much as any head coach could ask for in an assistant. She will bake for the girl and surprise them after a hard practice or to honor someone’s birthday. Yet, her on court coaching is amazing. She finds ways to include every girl in the program. Yet, she has extremely high expectations and demands each girl’s best effort. She shows this by constantly coaching during matches. Ree also loves to be involved in our youth program. She helps coach 4-6 grade girls in our recreation league and shows as much passion for that as she does for the varsity, and the kids love it. Ree has worked as a day care provider and preschool teacher for many years, as well as worked at our city aquatic center over the summer. Ree’s passion for the game is amazing and her passion for the kids of Lake Mills is unmatched. Jim Boehmer Lake Mills Athletic Director
