Science Intervention for Year 11 Disadvantaged Students Overview: Pupils to be provided with both a revision guide and work book to facilitate independent study and consolidation of learning. Ten pupils to be selected to receive mentoring from a Science specialist on a 1:1 basis. Academy lead: Imogen Gater Impact: The aim of this intervention is to continue to narrow the gap between disadvantaged pupils and others when obtaining 4 levels of progress in GCSE Sciences. The allocation of funding will also support the higher number of pupils who are now being entered for two GCSE Sciences at The Bourne Academy. I In 2014 Core Science exams 44.4% of disadvantaged pupils made 3 LOP and their peers made 38.2%. When looking at good progress (4 LOP), only 8.9% of disadvantaged pupils made this level compared to 14.7% of their peers. In 2014 Additional Science results 63.6% of disadvantaged pupils achieved A*-C compared to 88.9% of their peers. In terms of LOP, disadvantaged pupils achieved 4 LOP in 18.2% of cases compared to 33.3% of their peers. Although this gap is narrower that the national average, our aim is to reduce it further in our 2015 results.
