 How to make a Chinese Knot(Ping Knot)

Ask the students when and where can Chinese Knots and their
shapes or images can be used in China? Espacially during what
festivals? (Make some revision about the Spring Festival and MidAutumn Festival we have learnt.)
Course
Activities
1. Leading in.
Show a slide show about the shapes and images of Chinese Knots
used in China.
A video clip about the origin and the techniques of making Chinese
Knots.
2. Show the students necessary materials and tools when making
Chinese knots.(moulds, strings, and the needles made of paper
pins).
3. Play a video about how craftsman makes Chinese Knots very
proficiently, give the students some generals ideas about the
techniques of making Chinese Knots.
1). Give one mould to each of the students.
2). Help the students to know the functions of the nails on the
wooden board and basic conception about the methods to wave the
strings together.
3). Number the 15 nails from 1-15 to make clear which nail are we
mentioning when we make the knots.
4). Show the students how to make a Chinese Knot successfully and
share some skills with the students.
5). Give directions to the students step by step and give assistance
to the students if necessary.

The students should be able to have some general ideas about the
history and orgins of Chinese Knots; know some different kinds of

A project about Chinese Knots and make some designing using the
Chinese Knots shapes.
