Ice Skate Jersey at Fort Regent is a Huge Success
This season’s Ice Skate Jersey Christmas ice rink proved to be a great success with islanders,
who enjoyed the move to Fort Regent.
The rink moved to Fort Regent in order to make it bigger and better than ever before, and
was visited by 20,000 people during the month that it was open.
Almost 1200 school pupils from 15 schools visited the rink this winter, with many schools
organising end of term ice skating events.
Ice Skate Jersey also held numerous organised events, including outings from youth clubs,
Girl Guides, Scouts and Cubs, as well as parties and corporate bookings. Overall,
approximately 70% of skaters were aged under 17, showing the importance of the ice rink in
giving young people another form of entertainment during the winter months.
The larger location at Fort Regent meant that the organisers were even able to host ice
hockey sessions between 9 and 10 pm, after the rink closed to the public. One-to–one ice
skating coaching sessions were also available for adults and children alike.
Importantly, the huge success and popularity witnessed this year means that Sure is proudly
able to commit to sponsoring the rink again and the success of its new location means that
the rink is set to return to Fort Regent in December.
“Having this commitment and certainty means that we are able to build on its popularity
from this year,” said Keith Halstead of Ice Skate Jersey. “We were delighted that the
introduction of ice hockey was keenly supported and we wish to focus on that next season
as well as events such as live DJ sets. We’re looking forward to the rink opening again on
Friday, 5 December 2014.”
“We are very grateful to Keith and Trudie for organising Ice Skate Jersey, which is an
enormous undertaking,” said Lisa Mclauchlan, Sure’s Head of Communications and Retail. “It
was lovely to see that people of all ages came to enjoy the ice rink and the positive feedback
we have received regarding the venue, proves that Fort Regent is an excellent location,
enabling people to relax and enjoy their skating regardless of the weather.”
