DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 5032 PAY GRADE: 018 CLASS TITLE: SENIOR FISH/WILDLIFE TECHNICIAN ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is technical field and laboratory work involving the coordination, collection and identification of fish or wildlife information and responsible for implementing and carrying out management plans that are used to enhance the establishment, development, and maintenance of fish or wildlife resources. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Coordinates the collection of biological data from populations of aquatic plants and animals to be used to manage, maintain and enhance aquatic resources; and performs basic analysis of biological data. Coordinates and determines construction materials needed for planting of aquatic vegetation and construction and establishment of fish attractors and boat ramps. Coordinates and determines fertilizer compositions needed for hatchery ponds for production; analysis of hatchery ponds for fish production; estimates numbers of egg and fry for production purposes; and manages the grow-out of fish fry. Plans and coordinates wildlife population surveys, methodology, and collects and reviews collection of date from other technicians. Identifies and records biological data collected in the laboratory. Plans and develops wildlife openings and oversees the plantings to meet habitat management objectives. Conducts prescribed forest fire burns and serves as the certified prescribed burn manager. Coordinates the implementation of exotic weed control programs using scientific plans, procedures and techniques. Prepares bid specifications for maintenance and construction projects. Supervises construction of wildlife/fisheries structures, roads, buildings, parking area, fences, water control structures and related facilities. Provides training in the proper application of fish and wildlife management and scientific techniques. 5032-SENIOR FISH_WILDLIFE TECHNICIAN-CS Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions in the employing agency.) Knowledge of fish and wildlife sampling protocol and basic statistical techniques. Knowledge of construction materials and their utility in the management of fish and wildlife. Knowledge and understanding of quality fish and wildlife habitat. Knowledge of heavy equipment and boat operations, tractors, bush-hogs, building tools and mechanical repairs. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to sampling and evaluation of fish and wildlife populations. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to organize and maintain field notes. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to identify, analyze and determine solutions to problems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An associate of science degree from an accredited college in the field of wildlife, fisheries, environmental or agriculture studies and three years of wildlife, fisheries, environmental or related agricultural or construction experience. An associate of arts or science degree from an accredited college and four years of experience as described above. Sixty (60) semester hours at an accredited college or university which includes 21 semester hours in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological, biological or agricultural studies may substitute for the required college.
