DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 5031 PAY GRADE: 016 CLASS TITLE: FISH/WILDLIFE TECHNICIAN ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is technical field and laboratory work involving the collection and identification of fish or wildlife information and implementing and carrying out management plans that are used to enhance the establishment, development, and maintenance of the resources. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Formulates fish sampling methodology for specific fish species. Measures fish and aquatic plant population parameters used to evaluate and manage specific resources. Identifies areas of specific aquatic resources in need of aquatic vegetation, fish attractors and boat ramps; conducts fish kill assessments; measures habitat quality. Prepares fish for spawning, hatchery ponds for rearing; and hatchery hauling tanks for transport of broodfish and cultured fish. Conducts wildlife population surveys and carries out biological/habitat data collections. Conducts prescribed forest fire burns for habitat enhancement and forest floor fuel reduction. Implements wildlife management through specific scientific plans and practices. Constructs wildlife/fisheries structures, roads, building and supporting habitat management facilities. Performs related work as required. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions in the employing agency.) 5031-FISH_WILDLIFE TECHNICIAN-CS Knowledge of fish and wildlife sampling techniques and common population parameter measurements. Knowledge of quality fish and wildlife habit characteristics. Knowledge of construction and fish and wildlife management techniques. Knowledge of heavy equipment and boat operations, tractors, bush-hogs, building tools and mechanical repairs. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to sampling and evaluation of fish and wildlife populations. Ability to organize and maintain field notes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An associate of science degree from an accredited college in the field of wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or agriculture studies and one year of wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agricultural or construction experience. An associate of arts or science degree from an accredited college and two years of wildlife, fisheries, environmental or related agricultural or construction experience. Sixty (60) semester hours at an accredited college or university which include 21 semester hours in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological, biological or agricultural studies may substitute for the required college.
