Shaler Area School District Graduation Project Senior Students Shaler Area High School 381 Wible Run Road Pittsburgh, PA 15209 www.sasd.k12.pa.us Overview of project requirements by grade level: • Grade 8 – 8th Grade Seminar Course o Career interest survey o Non-verbal and communication skills o Resume and cover letter writing o Entry to the e-portfolio • Grade 9 - Freshman Seminar Course (Social Studies Department) o Introduction to the project requirements for grades 9-12 o Declare a career objective – complete the Career Objective form o Complete a Career Research Project o Entry to the e-portfolio • Grade 10 – Job shadow (completed independently) o 6 hours of job shadow/internship o Completion of the Job Shadow Analysis form o Thank you letter o Entry to the e-portfolio o English Research Paper (Completed in English Class) • Grade 11 – Post-Secondary Investigation (Completed Independently) o Completion of a new Career Objective form o One post-secondary investigation (Verified by Guidance Office) o College Application/Visit o Job Shadow o College/Job Fair o Trade/Vocational School Visit o Entry to the e-portfolio • Grade 12 – Final Project (completed independently) o o o Professional resume (English Class) Cover letter (English Class) Entry to the e-portfolio Note to Students: By the time you enter 12th grade you should have completed the Freshman Seminar coursework for the Graduation Project, the 10th Grade Job Shadow Requirement, and the 11th Grade Career Objective Update/Post Secondary Investigation (if you have any questions you can see Mr. Sorby in the 3rd Floor Graduation Project Office or email at sorbyp@sasd.k12.pa.us). The 12th grade requirements for the Graduation Project are to be completed in your English class.
