TEAMPLAYER PROGRAM This past month we highlighted the ‘Y’ of TEAMPLAYER. Many examples of ‘youthleadership’ were demonstrated by our students in their day-to-day routines here at Maple Wood. book profits for our library. With these profits, new novel sets for the junior division will be acquired, as will picture books that relate to our monthly TEAMPLAYER initiatives. A big thank you must also be given to the staff and students who helped to keep the book fair running smoothly!! For the month of April we will be focusing on the ‘E’ of TEAMPLAYER. A student who shows exemplary effort works both mentally and physically, striving to accomplish their personal best. We are confident that most, if not all of our students, will exemplify and further develop the attributes of ‘exemplary effort’, not only this month, but throughout the year. 'Reada the Reading Fairy' is planning to make a special delivery of books for her friends at Maple Wood Public School. She informed me that she would be sending books to create a new primary non-fiction bin and would be sending some new novels and graphic novels for the junior students. MWPS SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS SAFETY IN THE KISS N’ RIDE As always, please send any requests, comments or suggestions to the School Council via our email address: maplewoodps.council@peelsb.com." LIBRARY LINK Thank you to all who attended our 2011 Book Fair. We were able to raise almost $1000 of Scholastic Happy Reading! Ms. Barber Teacher-Librarian In an effort to promote safety in our Kiss n’ Ride area, parents are asked to have their child(ren) exit vehicles using the curb-side doors. We also ask that drivers exercise patience and wait for the flow of traffic in the drop-off lane to move ahead, rather than trying to hastily overpass the vehicle ahead of them by using the drive through lane. We thank you in advance for following these safety procedures! JUNIOR CHOIR On Thursday, April 28th, the Maple Wood Junior choir performed at the Peel Music Festival. The adjudicator commented on the good clarity of the singing and awarded our choir a second place finish, with a mark of 85. There were five other choirs at the competition and students enjoyed hearing each other sing and listening to the adjudicator's comments. The rainy and extremely windy walk to Edenwood United Church did not dampen our spirits and everyone felt happy and proud of their participation. Thank you to our parent volunteers! Congratulations Junior Choir and Mrs. Monague! this memorable afternoon together for our families! BICYCLES AND SKATEBOARDS/ROLLER BLADES Students who are riding their bicycles, skateboards or rollerblades to school are reminded that they are to wear a helmet and to either walk their bicycle or to carry their skateboarders or rollerblades, once they come onto school property (starting from the sidewalks) Parents/guardians are asked to review these expectations with their children so that we can all work together to promote safety! GRANDPARENT TEA Our Annual Grandparent Tea was held on April 11th in our library. It was a wonderful event and our students were proud to have their grandparents join them for refreshments and story sharing. Mrs. Barber, our teacher-librarian had preselected a number of books that were enjoyed by all. Thank you to Mrs. Barber for organizing this memorable morning! AUTHORS’ TEA Mrs. Lynch-Pappas’ Gr. 2s and Mrs. Reuter’s Gr. 2/3s enjoyed the opportunity to share their Fairy Tales at our Author’s Tea, which was held on April 14th. Family and friends listened to these wonderful stories, while enjoying refreshments in the library. We would like to thank Mrs. Lynch-Pappas, Mrs. Reuter and Mrs. Barber for putting AWARDS OF DISTINCTION We would like to recognize and congratulate the following Award of Distinction recipients who were acknowledged at a very special studentled assembly on April 21st here at MWPS.
