Dear Parents and Carers,
I trust you had a good Christmas and New Year holiday. It seems like a distant memory already! We
have been experiencing some rather harsh weather recently and this has had an immediate impact
on our playgrounds with flat roofs flooding and roof tiles sliding as well as some snow. Be assured
that we will do everything in our power to keep everyone safe so please be patient if you appear at a
school gate and we ask you to make a last minute detour to a safer drop- off or pick- up point. Can I
also ask that you reinforce to your children that it is important that they come to school with
appropriate clothing to deal with this inclement Scottish weather. It is all too often that we see children
running around the playground in shirt sleeves claiming that they don’t have a jacket (which we know
is untrue). We have a long and busy term ahead of us as you will see from our diary. Once again I
would like thank all parents and carers who give up their personal time to help us out in whatever way
they can, be it at school events, trips or accompanying children to the church or local park or using
their own transport to uplift or drop off items for us. We look forward to working with you all in
partnership again in the coming months.
Best wishes
Jo Church

Pupil Council
The Pupil Council held their last meeting on Friday 9th January 2015. A number of items were
discussed for action:
The Pupil Council would like to continue to help feed people in crisis by supporting the work of the
Everlasting foodbank. They would like each family to consider bringing in one item from the shopping
list each month. This could be done on non – uniform days. Items to donate can be tins (soup, fruit,
beans etc), tea, coffee, UHT or powdered milk and sugar, cereal, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, biscuits.
We received a lovely thank you letter from the Chairperson, Mr Craig Donaldson, thanking us for our
donations of presents, selection boxes and chocolate and sweets for families over the Christmas
period. The families were overwhelmed by your generosity.
The Pupil Council discussed ways of promoting attendance in school. It was decided by pupils that a
weekly chart should be displayed at assemblies to show classes on target at 95%. It was also agreed
that class percentages should be put in the monthly newsletters for parents. Children will receive a
golden raffle ticket to go in to the Monday draw for each full week they attend school (on time).
The Pupil Council will be using some of the Everwarm budget to purchase Golden Play equipment.
They hope to have this set up for use by the end of February. Does anyone have a staff discount card
for Toys R Us?
The Pupil Council will be sending an audit out to pupils to decide which charity (ies) should receive
the cheque donation from the High Carntyne Church 4cs Carol event held in December. The total
sum is £223. It was discussed that maybe more than one charity could benefit from this donation.

Non Uniform Days
The next non uniform day will be Friday 30th January 2015. The theme will be Wacky Hair Day. This
theme was suggested by the Pupil Council. It is not compulsory but all children who come to school in
theme or casual dress are asked to bring in £1.00 for the 50/50 draw which will be drawn on Monday
2nd February. (Bring in an item from the foodbank list if you can afford to as well).

All pupils attend weekly assemblies on a Monday morning at 9.15am. These are led by the Head
Teacher or Depute Head Teacher and last no longer than an hour. In addition pupils also receive
