The launch of a local history exhibition in the Civic Centre. This will be followed by a talk by
archaeologist Michael Drumm, who will discuss archaeological discoveries and the history
of Belturbet. A display of local archaeological artefacts will also be on view from August
22nd to 29th during Library opening hours.

An exhibition depicting aspects of the
American Civil War will be launched at
Johnston Central Library on Wednesday
August 5th at 8pm.
The war was such an all encompassing event
that the exhibition can only touch on aspects
of the conflict. Topics covered include: the
country before the war, growth of population,
acquisition of territory, economic growth,
causes of war, overview of battles, Matthew
Brady (war photographer), Irish involvement
including Cavan men, and the aftermath.
The Exhibition will run until the end of August
and is open for all to view during Library
opening hours. Everyone is welcome to come
along to the launch!
As part of the Community Participation
strand of the 2016 Centenary
programme, a Civic/ Family Friendly
event ‘Reimagining Cavan as it was
in 1916’ will take place in Cavan town
on Saturday 23rd April 2016.
The organising committee is now
inviting groups and organisations who
are interested in participating on the
day to make contact. Limited funding is
available. All events are free of charge
to the public.

We are delighted to announce that
two titles from our Summer Reads
2015 - ‘A Spool of Blue Thread’ by
Anne Tyler and ‘The Green Road’
by Anne Enright - have been
selected for the Man Booker
International Prize long list.
Bailieborough ‘Building Peace through
the Arts' Steering Committee has
selected Barry Linanne, Visual Artist, to
create a public artwork which will be
located at the Market House,
Bailieborough.
Pick up a copy of our ‘Summer
Reads 2015’ at your local library to
discover 40 carefully chosen titles,
including 4 titles ‘as Gaeilge’, with
something to please each and every
one of our readers.
Barry will give a presentation to the
community on Tuesday August 25th at
7pm at the Library.

Irish Design 2015: Celebrate your Local Design Hero!
Staff at Belturbet Library are
delighted to announce the
following August programme of
events for children:
Irish Design 2015 is a nationwide year-long programme exploring, promoting and
celebrating Irish Design in just about every form. Both Cootehill and Bailieborough
Libraries have been successful in securing funding from Irish Design to raise the
profile of a local design hero.
Thursday 13th August
Jewellery Making: 3.30pm4.30pm
Bailieborough Library will explore the world famous ‘Cavan Crystal’ glass with
workshops on 12th and 13th August for children aged 8-12 years.
Thursday August 6th, 13th, 20th
Knitting and crochet: 2.30pm3.30pm
Chess for kids: 6pm-7pm
Booking is essential.
Cootehill Library will host a ‘Build Your Bear’ and ‘Teddy Bear Hospital Party’ on
September 26th for children aged 6-9 years to celebrate the ‘Bear Essentials’ Craft
Studio based in Bawnboy.
All workshops are free of charge and both Libraries require advance booking.
There is a competition for places on the Cootehill workshop due to the high
