ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING BERRY & DISTRICT GARDEN CLUB INC. St Luke’s Hall Berry on 19 August 2014 The meeting commenced at 8.25 pm following the end of the August monthly meeting of the BDGC. President Penny Johnson welcomed 103 people including 95 members and eight visitors. There were 4 apologies. Previous Minutes The minutes of the August 2013 AGM had been previously circulated to all members via email and post. Penny moved that the Minutes of the 2013 AGM be accepted as a true and accurate record, seconded by Hazel King. Carried. There was no business arising. President's Report The President's report was presented by Penny and she outlined the activities and work of the club during 2013/14 – a year which culminated in the BDGC being awarded Australia’s garden club of the year for 2014 by Garden Clubs Australia. ((Penny’s full report is available in the electronic archives)). Treasurer's Report Treasurer Mary Seelis presented the 2014 Treasurer’s Report. The independently Audited Report for 2014 had been distributed electronically to all members. Mary said the highlight of the year’s activities was that the club made a profit of more than $6,100. Mary moved that her report be accepted and that the auditor for the coming year be H&R Block. The motion was seconded by John Edmonds. Carried Club Activities Reports 1. Richard Wiseman thanked all those volunteers who had contributed to the upkeep of the David Berry Hospital garden during 2013/14. A fantastic effort by all those involved and the results are very much appreciated by the staff and the patients at the hospital. 2. Trish Knevitt reported that volunteers have been working at the Courthouse for 14 years. They meet weekly in summer and twice a month in winter to ensure the grounds are attractive for functions, thereby bringing in funds for the Courthouse Conservation Committee. Thanks were given to her team, especially to Bob Croker for pruning the roses, the Heaths for help with the camellias and to the “mulch movers”. Outgoing Committee Penny presented the retiring committee members to the membership and thanked them all for their outstanding contribution to the club in 2014. As this was her last meeting as President of the BDGC Penny was given a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the club by Jennie Moors and received much applause from those attending. Election of Officers for 2014-2015 Penny welcomed Marilyn Thomas, the Garden Clubs Australia zone coordinator, to conduct the election of office bearers for 2014/15. Marilyn declared all positions vacant. She then reported that there was a sufficient number of nominations to fill the available vacancies. Therefore, no election would be necessary. She read out the names of the following: President Denis Simond Vice President Margaret Street Secretary Gail Paton Treasurer Mary Seelis Committee Members: Marcia Miller, Robyn Simond, Kay Jarrett, Robin Brooks, Tony Hampson. Hazel King. Conduct of the meeting was then handed back to the President who declared the 2014 AGM closed and invited everyone to attend the AGM supper prepared by the volunteers.
