7-12 Principal Report South O’Brien Mr. Bruder Professional Development Wednesday, September 16 - AIW and Para Educator Training. School Pictures were completed on September 18th with Life Touch. Mrs. Faust and her Yearbook Team of 12 students attended workshop training with Jostens on September 23 at the Seibens Center on Buena Vista University campus in Storm Lake. Homecoming on Friday, October 2 was another fun day of activities. A special thanks to all the city employees who helped make the parade another smooth operation like it’s been in the past. A lot of involved planning goes into making Homecoming fun for the students. The parade is enjoyed by all of our community patrons and we had another beautiful fall day to enjoy Homecoming. All events went off without issue and we had a very successful homecoming. Northwest Iowa Career Day was held on Sheldon’s NCC campus. Many Northwest Iowa High Schools were invited to attend and over 700 students attended this event. Fifty South O’Brien Junior attended the event with me and Mrs. Flynn. PSAT Testing took place Wed, October 14th. Pre-Scholastic-Aptitude-Test was taken by all of our Junior students. The Cheer/Dance squad is having its annual Cheer Dance Camp board tonight, so if you hear a lot of excited little girls screaming you know the origin. Sat, October 17 South O’Brien will participate in the Northwest Iowa Quiz Bowl in Orange City at Unity Christian High. The FFA Blue Jackets have had a very busy month with Livestock Judging at the Clay County Fair in late September, District Soil Competition at Morningside College on Sept. 29, Greenhand competition at MOC on Oct. 6, State FFA Soils Competition in Ames on Oct. 10 and during the last week of October they will be traveling to Ames for the 2015 Annual FFA Leadership Conference. Last, the FFA Meats Team will be participating in the Western National Meats Competition after Christmas. The Jr. High will be host to an assembly called “Pennies to Paychecks” on Monday, Oct. 19. The assembly will be put on by the National Theatre for Children; their focus is teaching kids about financial literacy that is age appropriate for Jr. High students. Teaching is done in sequences of skits and short plays to engage kids in real learning that makes sense to kids ages 11 to 14. “Learning about Earning” was created by a group of educators from Minneapolis, Minnesota. October 21 will be the end of the First Quarter. Wow—1/4 of the year done already?? Jostens representatives will be on campus on October 24 to meet with both Sophomores and Seniors. All State Band and Vocal auditions will be held at Buena Vista University on Oct. 24. October 26 will be no school for students but will be a full day of professional development for staff led by the AIW Lead Team on the 7-12 Campus. November 3, 2015 Election Day. We encourage all students who have earned the right to vote to do so. Accolades!! Band, Fall Sports, FFA, Etc. GO WOLVERINES!!
