Notes:
Diversity
*Differences
*The diversity among sexually reproduced organisms
results primarily from the many possible combinations of
pairs of alleles transferred from parents to offspring.
*Not all traits are dominant/recessive as in Mendel’s pea
plants and our critter’s tail color.
Incomplete dominance
*Gives an in-between or intermediate appearance. Traits
blend together.
*Example from lab: Nose length
*Example: Red flowers are bred with white flowers to
produce pink flowers.
Co-dominance
*Both traits are dominant and fully present.
*Example from lab: critter had both blue and green
spikes.
1
*Example: Red flowers are bred with white flowers to
produce red and white striped flowers.
Heredity and
Environment
*Both heredity and the environment play roles in
determining the traits of an organism. (lifestyle also)
*Example: skin color is initially inherited, but is influenced
by sun exposure.
