Personal Statement I am an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. At Johns Hopkins, I lead the Brain Tumor Stem Cell Laboratory at Johns Hopkins Neurosurgery Department. I study brain tumors from an imaging, clinical and basic science perspective to improve patient safety and maximize the efficacy of current treatments for brain tumors. I am an expert in brain cancer and have interests in preventing brain tumor cell migration. For this research proposal, I will be mentoring Mr. Joshua Bakhsheshian (along with Dr. Andre Levchenko from Biomedical Engeneering as a co-mentor), a 2nd year medical student, in identifying the cell responsible for tumor recurrence, and if these cells are under the guidance EGF proteins. It is my goal for Joshua to reach the aims outlined in his research proposal and develop the appropriate skills to become an independent physician-scientist who will be a leader in the field of Neuro-Oncology.
