Scope of Work: Class III Cultural Resource Inventory The scope of work proposed herein by PaleoWest Solutions in Archaeology is for conducting a Class III (full pedestrian) archaeological inventory of about five acres along Yavapai County road right-of-way in Yavapai County, Arizona. The proposed right-ofway would be across land administered by the Arizona State Land Department, and the inventory would be conducted toward establishing compliance with the Arizona State Historic Preservation Act. Task 1a. Literature Review. PaleoWest will conduct a review of archaeological site and survey data recorded on the AZSITE database system and in the records at the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office for information on sites previously recorded and projects previously conducted in or near the proposed right-of-way. PaleoWest will copy relevant records and use information gathered to assist with conducting the fieldwork and preparing the report. PaleoWest will also secure authorization to conduct the field survey under its existing Arizona State Museum permit. Task 1b. Fieldwork. Following literature review, PaleoWest archaeologists will conduct a full pedestrian inventory of the property, following Arizona State Museum inventory standards. Archaeologists will walk transects spaced not more than 20 m apart covering all of the proposed right-of-way, recording all isolated occurrences and mapping and recording archaeological sites according to Arizona State Museum guidelines. Previously recorded sites will be re-evaluated in the field, and information from historical records will be field-checked to assess the presence and condition of historical resources. A Registered Professional Archaeologist who meets the Secretary of the Interior’s professional standards will head the fieldwork. Task 1c. Report Preparation, Client Consultation, and Site and Project Records Submittal. Upon completion of fieldwork, PaleoWest will submit to the client a preliminary report of the inventory results. PaleoWest will then prepare a full survey report that meets all standards of the State Historic Preservation Office and the Arizona State Museum. The report will include a review of the project area’s environmental setting, the results of the literature review, a description of the field methods, a record of isolated occurrences, photographs and professionally drafted maps, a detailed description of each new site recorded, an evaluation of each site’s potential eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, and recommendations for either further mitigative work or full archaeological clearance for the proposed undertaking. PaleoWest will submit this draft report to the client for review and consult with the client on the results of the project. Site, isolated occurrence, and project records will be prepared according to Arizona State Museum standards. Upon client approval, all project and site records will be prepared in the proper format and submitted to the Arizona State Museum, along with payment for all project and site registration fees. Total Cost: $2600 COST AND TERMS The professional fee for completing the work described herein will be $2600, payable on a fixed-fee basis. This lump-sum price is based on a projection that not more than two archaeological or historical sites will need to be recorded or re-evaluated along the proposed right-of-way. If more than two sites are encountered, PaleoWest will request a contract modification in the amount of $375 per additional site to offset the associated recording, reporting, and site registration costs. The client will ensure that the proposed right-of-way is clearly marked and that all necessary access is arranged prior to PaleoWest initiating fieldwork. Payment terms are 30 days net. Late payment will incur an additional charge of 1.5% per month until the balance is paid in full.
