Who can participate in this dual enrollment opportunity?

 High school students who have earned a minimum of 11 credits and who are on track to graduate.

 Junior or Senior students who wish to earn both high school and college credit for courses successfully completed.

Which courses are available to me through dual enrollment?

 Graduation requirement and college preparatory courses in the following core subject areas: o English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language

What are the application requirements for the dual enrollment Bachelor Program?

 Minimum High School Core GPA: 3.25

 Minimum SAT Scores: 480 Critical Reading and 440 Math = Combined Score 970

 Minimum ACT Scores: 20 English and 18 Math = Composite Score 20

What are the benefits of participating in a dual enrollment program?

 Earn BOTH college and high school course credit

 Satisfy HOPE rigor requirements

 Courses taken through dual enrollment DO NOT count against HOPE Scholarship hours

 Students can still participate in high school activities

What are the important dates I need to remember in order to participate in this program?

 Information Night: January 27, 2015 or January 29, 2015 at 6:00pm at the University of North Georgia in Cumming

 Fall Semester (begins in August): Preferred deadline is May 1, 2015.

What do I need to do before I apply for dual enrollment?

 Make an appointment to meet with your high school counselor at least two months before the May 1 st application deadline.

Q: Where will the college credit I earn transfer?

A: Most 4-year colleges and universities.

Q: How do I schedule classes?

A: Work with your high school counselor and your University of North Georgia dual enrollment academic advisor.

Q: How many courses can I take?

A: Accel = 3 to 15 credit hours. Normally, courses without labs are 3 credits; courses with labs are 4 credits.

Q: Do Accel courses count toward HOPE credit hours cap?

A: No. HOPE covers 127 credit hours not including Accel courses.

Q: What if I want to become a Nighthawk after I graduate high school?

A: Once accepted for admission as a dual enrolled student, the University of North Georgia considers you to be one of their students. Just let the admissions office know, and they will re-code you in their system as a new student: no need to re- apply for admission.

How do I APPLY to the University of North Georgia Dual Enrollment Program?

1.

To begin the application process, a student must make an appointment to meet with North Forsyth High School’s Lead

Counselor, Mrs. Kathy Wigley, to complete the first two sections of the Accel Program Application.

Student will need to access and complete the University of North Georgia application at http://ung.edu/undergraduateadmissions/dual-joint-enrollment.php

or https://secure.gacollege411.org/applications/University_of_North_Georgia/introduction.asp?application_id=4021 . Students will be required to pay a $30 nonrefundable application fee upon submission of college application.

Student must go to the North Forsyth High School main counseling office to request that their official high school transcript and immunization records be sent to the University of North Georgia.

Student must verify that their official SAT and/or ACT scores have been sent to the University of North Georgia.

To send official SAT and/or ACT scores, the student can do any of the following: a.

Request that official scores be sent to the University of North Georgia at the time of testing. b.

to request that student’s official SAT scores be sent to the University of North Georgia c.

to request that student’s official ACT scores be sent to the University of North Georgia

Student must submit their verification of lawful presence documentation. Students may complete this step by going to http://ung.edu/undergraduate-admissions/verification-of-lawful-presence.php

The University of North Georgia Application Process is not complete until student has completed each of the following requirements: a.

Student has completed and submitted the online or paper application b.

Student has paid the $30 nonrefundable application fee c.

Student’s official high school transcript has been received by the University of North Georgia d.

Student’s official SAT and/or ACT scores have been received by the University of North Georgia e.

Student has submitted a Letter of Permission from Parent or Guardian to participate in dual enrollment at the

University of North Georgia. This letter should be turned in to your North Forsyth high school counselor. f.

Student’s Immunization Records have been received by the University of North Georgia g.

Student has submitted their Verification of Lawful Presence

Students should check their application status two weeks after submitting the University of North Georgia application, paying the $30 nonrefundable application fee, and submitting all required supporting documentation to ensure that each of these required items have been received by the university.

What do I do once ACCEPTED into the University of North Georgia Dual Enrollment Program?

1.

Student must make an appointment to meet with North Forsyth High School’s Lead Counselor, Mrs. Kathy Wigley. At this meeting, the student will communicate their acceptance status into the University of North Georgia. Student will then be given their Accel Program Application which they will need to take to their college advisor at the University of North

Georgia to complete.

2.

Student must make an appointment to meet with their University of North Georgia college advisor to register for their classes and get the final section of the Accel Program Application completed. In order to have the best chance of registering for the courses and times needed, students should schedule this appointment with their college advisor BEFORE the course registration date for University of North Georgia undergraduate students.

3.

Students must return their completed Accel Application to their North Forsyth high school counselor prior to beginning their dual enrollment courses.

4.

Student must submit a request for funding in order for dual enrollment tuition to be paid by the state. This request can be completed by going online to gacollege411.org and completing the ACCEL Application.

5.

At the end of each semester, the student must submit a request through the University of North Georgia to have their official transcript sent back to North Forsyth High School.

STUDENTS MUST MEET WITH MRS. WIGLEY AND COMPLETE THIS FIVE-STEP PROCESS EVERY SEMESTER!
