Chapter 6

Chapter 7

Chapter 8
A true cold __winter__________ arrives in Alabama. ______Snow___ falls, a phenomenon
not seen since ____1885______. Miss ____Maudie_________’s house catches fire in the night and
burns to the ground. When the Finches return to their home in the morning, _____Atticus_____
asks Scout where she got the __blanket___________ that is around her shoulders. Scout realizes
that _____Boo_________ must have covered her up, she didn’t even notice. The next day Scout
and Jem speak to Miss Maudie about losing her ____house______; she doesn’t seem that upset.
Chapter 9
Scout fights __________Francis____________ for calling _________Atticus____ a
____n*****_______-lover regarding his defense of _______Tom Robinson________________, a black
man accused of ___________raping_____ a white woman. Atticus explains that he doesn’t expect
to ________win____ the trial but that he couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t try. He asks Scout
to curb her ______anger_______. She successfully walks away from ___________ the next day.
Christmas arrives and brings Uncle Jack, Atticus’s brother. At Finch’s
_______Landing___________ on Christmas day, Scout loses her ___temper_________ with young

Chapter 10
Scout and Jem are bothered that ___Atticus________is older than their friends’

with one shot. Jem is in awe of _____Atticus_______’s skill; he understands that

Chapter 11
Scout describes Mrs.____Dubose________, a mean elderly woman who lives on her street.
Whenever Scout and Jem pass by, Mrs. ____ Dubose _________ says terrible things about their
_________father_____. One day Scout and Jem are walking to ______town_____, and Mrs. Dubose
insults ______Atticus_______ because he is defending _____a black man_____________. Jem says

weeks later. Not long after that Mrs. Dubose ___dies___________. _______Atticus_________
explains that Mrs. Dubose was using the reading time as a way to wean herself away from her
_____morphine_______ addiction so that she could die on her own terms.
