One tree was uprooted in the parking lot of the National Mosque, a spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations room told Bernama news agency. The department was working on removing the debris, he said. "Among the badly congested roads were Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Duta, Jalan Mahameru, Jalan Kuching and the Federal Highway," he added. The thunderstorm lasted for about one hour from about 5.30pm. The flooded roads included Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Cheras Lama, Jalan Chan Sow Lin and Jalan Segambut. Local media reported that the SMART tunnel remained open to traffic in both directions. 5.8 quake rocks northern Philippines: USGS Published on Apr 11, 2013 9:24 AM MANILA (AFP) - A moderate 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Batan Islands region of the northern Philippines on Thursday, seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued. The quake hit at 4.20 am local time at a shallow depth of just 4.2 kilometres, east of Itbayat, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. It initially measured the quake at 6.1. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was felt in some parts of the sparsely populated and remote region and it had recorded two aftershocks, though no damage was expected. The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
