CNS Sponsorship of Departmental STEM Education Colloquia
The College of Natural Science, in collaboration with the Create for STEM Institute, is
once again making funds available to encourage Departments to invite speakers in their
discipline who are experts on research-validated teaching practices to give colloquia on
their methods and results. To this end, the college will provide matching funds during the
2014-15 academic year for STEM education colloquium speakers (about 10 speakers total;
maximum 2 per department).
Please note the following guidelines:
Speaker Requirements:

The speaker must give a STEM education presentation in a department-wide
colloquium series, and not only in a specialized seminar in a sub-field.

Departments should work with CNS and Create for STEM to advertise the
colloquium broadly and coordinate the speaker's schedule, so those in related
fields who are interested can also attend and interact with the visitor.
The CNS Dean’s Office will support 50% of speaker expenses up to a maximum of
$500. Departments are responsible for travel arrangements for speakers.

MSU is an affirmative-action
equal-opportunity employer.
Renee Bayer (rbayer@msu.edu) in Create for STEM is coordinating this program – please
contact her if you are interested in participating. Renee also can provide a list of STEM
education research speakers and topics that have been suggested by MSU faculty.
Please note: If possible, we would like the speaker to present a research-focused seminar as
part of the CREATE Science Education Research Seminar Series. An honorarium and
expenses/lodging for an additional day for the visit will be arranged for this talk.
