Who: Your child
Summer Reading Event
When: June 20-August 31 summer!
Where: At home, in the car, on the beach, anywhere!
Why: To promote the importance of independent reading outside of school…and it’s FUN!
Prizes: The students with the highest reading time by grade level during the summer will be entered to win a brand new portable reading tablet when they return to school!
Details: You have been given a calendar and a list of suggested books/authors for your child to read this summer. Your job is to sign off on the amount of reading your child does per week on the calendar. For each allotted timeframe (by grade level) your child will be given one raffle ticket for the designated number of minutes to read. If your child reads more than that amount each week, he/she can get additional raffle tickets.
 Time allotted to Summer Reading…students going into the following grades in the fall: o
Grades 5-6:
 Minimum 90 minutes a week = 1 raffle ticket
 120+ minutes a week = 2 raffle tickets, etc. o
Grades 3-4:
 Minimum 60 minutes a week = 1 raffle ticket
 90+ minutes a week = 2 raffle tickets, etc. o Grades 1-2:
 Minimum 30 minutes a week = 1 raffle ticket
 60+ minutes a week = 2 raffle tickets, etc.
At the beginning of school next year, have your child submit the signed calendar to their new teacher. During September, they will be entered to win a brand new reading tablet!
