League of Women Voters of Houston To Honor First Person CEO Christina Gorczynski
at Women’s Equality Day & Rising Stars Celebration Sept. 26
(Houston, Texas) – The League of Women Voters of Houston is set to honor First Person
CEO Christina Gorczynski at their 4th annual Women’s Equality Day celebration on Thursday,
September 26, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hughes Hangar located at 2811
Washington Ave, Houston, Texas. The League will also be celebrating their 93rd anniversary
as well as announce the next class of the LWV-Houston Rising Stars at their Fall celebration.
Gorczynski served as Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Houston from
2009-2012. During her time with the League of Women Voters, Christina designed and
managed a highly successful youth engagement program and was recognized nationally for
excellence in building an online community on behalf of the League as well as developing
youth engagement and outreach to include high school students, college students and young
emerging leaders.
Christina created the Women’s Equality Day celebration during her tenure as executive
director which has become a new League tradition. Honoring her at this 4th celebration is a
fitting tribute to her legacy with the League. Since leaving the League in 2012, Gorczynski
founded and launched First Person, a strategy firm that plans and implements growth plans
with progressive local and national organizations.
"As we take time to celebrate the historic 19th Amendment as well as honor the creative
talents of the emerging leaders in the Houston community, we are so pleased to be able to
honor our former Executive Director, Christina Gorczynski, for her accomplishments and
contributions both to the League and to the Houston community." League of Women Voters
of the Houston Area President, Carolyn Mata, said. “As Founder and CEO of First Person
Christina continues to equip and educate engaged citizens with tools that enable them to
make a difference in and improve the communities around them.”
Like Gorczynski and the other young emerging leaders that will be recognized at the event,
League members are always working to get more citizens engaged in their community. An
engaged citizenry can and does lead to civic improvement at all levels of government. Since
1920 and the passage of the 19th Amendment, The League of Women Voters of Houston has
worked for 93 years to safeguard democracy through expanded civic engagement.
Gorczynski is a community leader and business consultant for nonprofits and socially
responsible for-profit companies. She is a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Texas and
a certified mediator. She earned a joint JD/MBA from the University of Houston and a BA in
Women's Studies from Beloit College. She is native Houstonian, a graduate of Leadership
Houston Class XXX, and the Women's Resources Foundation Power Pipeline program.
This event benefits the League of Women Voters-Houston Area Education Fund 501(c)3,
which has a long history of encouraging citizen participation by providing non-partisan
information about government and the election process. Among the activities of the League
of Women Voters-Houston Area Education Fund are voter registration campaigns,

Chapman Catt Award. Past CCC Award winners include Laura Spanjian, Sustainability
