About the Student Alumni Association (SAA): - SAA is a student run organization, which is sponsored by the UCR Alumni Association. SAA organizes events, which enable current UCR students to network with UCR alumni. SAA is currently the largest due-paying organization on campus with over 650 members. - Some of the events/programs that SAA organizes are: o Career Conferences (Medical, Engineering, and Business) o Dinners with Alumni o UCR Dance Marathon o Mentorship Program o Social events o Community service o And more! The mission of the SAA at UC Riverside is to provide students with the opportunity to network with alumni and gain valuable insights into their prospective careers. Positive behavior reflects trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, and caring. Participants are expected to fully participate, follow all program guidelines and behave appropriately to ensure a high-quality experience and ensure the safety of all participants. Board members are to attend all meetings and events. More than one (1) unexcused absence may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or dismissal. An unexcused absence is defined as being absent from a board meeting, committee meeting, or event without having provided prior notification to the director, executive director, or adviser(s) as appropriate. Use of alcohol or illegal drugs at any official SAA/DM event/gathering or where the member serves as a representative for SAA or DM at an event is strictly prohibited. Any member that is found to have provided drugs and/or alcohol at an event or gathering, participated in taking drugs and/or alcohol at an event or gathering, or attends an event or gathering under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will be subject to disciplinary action which may include suspension or dismissal. Official events/gatherings are defined as: any social, fundraiser, or event planned at an SAA meeting, any event that uses SAA funds to cover the cost, or any event that consists of a majority of SAA members in attendance. If drugs and/or alcohol are present at an event, members must report the violation to the adviser(s) and the organizational leadership as soon as possible regardless of whether or not the member participated in the activities. Any member who does not report violations will be subject to disciplinary action which may include suspension or dismissal from the position. SAA prohibits discrimination against and/or harassment of any participant or any applicant because of race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law. Bullying or hazing is strictly prohibited. Any member who participates in harassment or discrimination will be subject to disciplinary action which may include suspension or dismissal from the position. Additionally, any member that witnesses harassment or discrimination but does not report it to student leadership and/or advisers will be subject to disciplinary action. Theft, fraud, and vandalism are prohibited. Any member found to participate in theft, fraud, or vandalism or is aware of theft, fraud, or vandalism from a member and does not report it may be suspended or dismissed. Theft or fraud can be defined as (but is not limited to): submitting reimbursement requests for items unrelated to SAA or DM, using the Alumni Association’s non-profit status for personal benefit, fundraising for personal benefit under the guise of SAA/DM, taking property not belonging to the participant, manipulating a prize drawing, use of University property for personal benefit (this includes computers, printer, copier, etc.). Misuse of personal information of participants is prohibited. Any member found participating in misuse of personal information, or any person aware of misuse of personal information may be suspended or dismissed. This includes selling or using personal Page 5 of 6 information such as student identification numbers, academic information, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, and financial information. Disciplinary action for any violation will be determined by the group adviser(s) and student leadership as deemed appropriate by the adviser(s). Any participant engaging in illegal activities and/or activities that violate University policy may be reported to the UCR Office of Student Conduct and/or the authorities.
