Minutes – October 17, 2013 12:00-1:00pm, ASC

Eric Simms, Thomas Struble, Larry Tomascak, and Kathy Yalof.
The meeting was called to order at 12:04 p.m.
Disposition of Minutes
A motion was made and passed to accept the minutes of the September 19, 2013 meeting.
Orders of the Day
- Tracy Tyree was present for the meeting.
-
SUOAF has changed the search process to give immediate supervisors, who are outside the bargaining unit, the choice to give an inside candidate consideration for a position, if qualified, without going through a search.
-Sal Rizza will represent AFS on the Strategic Plan Committee – (Kim Crone already serves so there is good representation).
-Title IX Event, Homecoming and the Educational Advisory Board demonstration, were all well attended.
-Sonia Sotomayor lecture is sold out.
-Nick D’Onofrio will speak on November 4, from 1-2 in the Theatre.
Reports of Standing Committees
STEERING – Sal (and Kim) attended the Strategic Plan Meeting when the President Charged the
Committee. They reviewed the prior plan and shared ideas and brainstormed. 4 broad themes were:

Global /local
Resources/stewardship
There were no other reports.
Reports of Special Committees
DINING – Kathy mentioned that the issues were more employee/management related. Still reviewing the meal plan to include 3 Conn Hall meals and 11 Student Center. Also healthier menu. Brad mentioned that the employees now wear name tags.
There were no other reports.
Old Business
-Putting up smoking signs is an ongoing project by facilities to all buildings.
-ConnSCU President Greg Gray will be visiting Campus on October 28 th for an open forum in the ballroom.
-U/G Open House is on Oct. 20 th and Grad Open house on October 26 th . 11:00 to 2:30.
-Faculty Senate Meetings are Oct 30 th and Nov. 11 th . Wednesdays at 12:00 noon. Pablo will be speaking at the Oct. 30 th mtg. Brad has been attending these meetings and reported that they are very informative and invaluable.
New Business
-Bob Drobish, Tom Dorr, Giovanni D’Onofrio and Eric Simms expressed interest in serving on one of 2 IT committees that Pablo is forming … Faculty/Staff. Gio asked how involved a commitment would it be. Brad will check on this. Chris talked of the need for better computers for support personnel, as a point of interest for these new committees. At the moment there is a 4 year cycle for replacement.
-Bob Drobish gave an Ad Astra update. This is being upgraded to Version 7, a web-based “cloud” program that assists in Academic scheduling and strategic “check-ups”. Training is November 20 th with a presentation on schedule utilization.
-Tracy Tyree thanked the committee for the opportunity to attend this meeting and made a point of the mentioning the engageing impact the committee has on the campus climate.
