Administrative Faculty Senate – Election Meeting
Minutes – September 18, 2014 12:00 noon, ASC 312
Present: Giovanni D’Onofrio, Mary Pat Caputo, Brad Crerar, Margaret Huda, Jordan Jones,
Anna Rivera-Alfaro, Robert DeMezzo, Tom Dorr, Eric Lacharity, Chris Piscitelli, Jen Ruggiero,
Eric Simms, Tom Struble, Larry Tomascak, Kathy Yalof
The meeting was called to order at 12:04 p.m.
Minutes from August 21, 2014 were approved.
Orders of the Day
Updates: The President’s State of the University address is posted in an e-mail link.
New Hires handout was distributed. Counseling Services search unsuccessful.
The plan is to hire a consultant to assist in a new search. Difficulty nationwide.
5 new advising positions and 31 faculty positions filled. All BOR budgeted.
Greg Paveza is now Dean of Graduate Studies and Sandy Bulmer is now Interim Dean
of H&HS.
Transform 2020 rescheduled to 9/29/14. Dr. Kennedy is the liaison. There are
36 initiatives the President is asking to get involved in. Handouts will be at the Town Hall.
Rob Rennie is upgrading WiFi. Eventually SCSU students will be able to log on from/at
any of the 17 campuses with SCSU ID and OneCard/Hootloot.
The 10 year Strategic Plan is under construction.
The Mayor of Bridgeport is working with President Papazian for Southern to have a presence
in Bridgeport, in addition to New Havens’ Old Gateway building and SOTG. Bridgeport has
been recognized nationally for their efforts in sustainability. A “core sample” is ongoing
regarding Gateway’s feasibility and SCSU’s Banner is installed on the building.
Royall & Company has been hired as Enrollment Management consultants. They have a 3
prong program to reach 35,000 HS seniors; Communication/Follow up/ Benchmark survey,
which will take place between October 2014 and May 2015.

Report of Standing Committees
Eric L. will provide a report on who has applied and/or been approved for a sabbatical leave
Brad: Master Plan met this morning. Programs will determine facility space.
No other reports – committees have not met yet.
Old Business
SOTG has a coordinator now. Alice Selverian will oversee the space utilization between
Employees/Businesses/Advising/Admissions. There is an Open House there on 10/23/14 for local
Business leaders. The space is leased using Foundation funds.
New Business
Committee was encouraged to attend the Graduate Prioritization town hall on 9/19/14 at 1:00 p.m.
in the ballroom. Links to that report and the Campus Climate and Inclusion were shared.
Read and become familiar with the comments and recommendations of both.
It was mentioned that there is some unrest amongst the faculty regarding Transform 2020
