SCOPE OF WORK: To provide career planning, academic advising, transfer advising and job/internship placement
assistance to prospective and existing students majoring in an NHTI Computer Degree or Certificate Program and to work
collaboratively with computer program department heads, faculty, advising colleagues, support staff, and other offices.
This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at NHTI – Concord’s Community College.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 Meets with employers and workforce partners for recruitment/outreach & promotional visits; coordinates with the
NHTI’s marketing director on initiatives to market NHTI’s computer-related programs.
 Collaborates with industry, workforce development, education, and community partners to recruit TAA participants &
other dislocated workers to develop media relations, prepares and delivers career awareness & orientation sessions;
 Counsels, guides, and advises students in the areas of course and program selection, career direction, or problems
related to adjustment to college life;
 Assists in the creation of articulation agreements and career pathways with high schools, two year and four year
colleges;
 Provides advising services for prospective and matriculated Animation and Graphic Game Programming, Computer
Engineering Technology and Information Technology students in the absence of a Department Head, including the
following: adding and dropping courses; changing programs; selection and scheduling of courses; transfer credit
issues; credit by exam requests; independent study requests; books; referrals to other offices as appropriate; and
general issues related to student’s academic status;
 Works collaboratively with Advising Center personnel and General Studies advisors as needed to ensure consistency
in advising practices;
 Manages career and job/internship placement resources that pertain to NHTI Computer Programs including, but not
limited to, partnering with academic departments and advising center staff to develop academic and career resources;
administering career assessments and providing career counseling to students; guiding students in researching and
reality testing career opportunities; coaching students on resume and interview presentation skills as well as effective
self-promotion and job search strategies; promoting and disseminating targeted job and internship postings; working
with the CCSNH online career board to support career program administration and service delivery, overseeing details
of employer visits to campus; coordinating job and career fairs, as applicable; connecting employers to departments;
presenting career and job-related workshops and information sessions; working with high schools and
business/industry employers, when appropriate, on career-related information;
 Research best practices in prior learning assessment and create a model appropriate to students interested in IT careers
that minimizes academic policy barriers to entry into IT-related programs and maximizes opportunities for
advancement;
 Works closely with other College offices (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Learning
Center, Public Information, etc.) and academic departments to facilitate resolution of student issues and to develop
and publicize information, events, and materials appropriate to the position;
 Engages with various software programs including Banner, CCSNH Job Board, Access, and MS Office suite, and
stays current with additional applications that relate to the Academic Advising Center;
 Maintains knowledge of institutional and academic policies and procedures including job and internship posting
policies, academic program information, general financial aid standards of progress, and general college policies;
 Stays current with industry standards and best practices for academic advising, career counseling and the Information
Technology field through professional development opportunities, industry journals, and professional organizations;
 Assists with and maintains a presence at open houses, registrations, orientations, and other college events;
 Assists in the coordination and preparation of qualitative and quantitative data pertinent to areas of responsibility;
 Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
 Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in human resources management,
education, counseling, psychology or business administration field. Each additional year of approved formal education
may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience in a postsecondary institution as an academic counselor, faculty member, or as a
counselor or advisor in student/academic affairs or an educational setting.
License/Certification: Valid New Hampshire driver’s license or access to transportation.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of counseling principles and techniques. Considerable
knowledge of learning, behavior, and emotional patterns of young adults. Knowledge of personality, achievement,
prognostic, and placement tests and the techniques involved in their use and interpretation. Knowledge of statistical
analysis techniques. Ability to maintain rapport with students, faculty and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and
to prepare written reports. Ability to instruct students, faculty and staff concerning counseling roles and techniques,
leadership roles, and human relations. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and
responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
