Middle Ridge Elementary School-Parent Compact School Year 2014- 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian, Middle Ridge Elementary students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement, as well as describes how school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement. Newton County School System Goals: Our mission is to provide educational excellence for all students. The Newton County School System envisions students, who through a rigorous and relevant education will be able to think critically in order to produce, perform, create, and communicate their knowledge competitive to a hyper-connected, global audience. Newton County School System’s two non- negotiable goals are: to increase student achievement and more teacher effectiveness. Middle Ridge Elementary Goals: The mission of the Middle Ridge Elementary School community is to prepare our students for daily success as well as productive life beyond the classroom. Middle Ridge Elementary Mustangs are students of strength, intelligence, and determination. Middle Ridge Elementary School’s non–negotiable goals are: to increase quality reading and writing stamina, increase rigor & relevance in mathematics through the CRA method and student summarization of his/her thinking through the CRA method and student summarization of his/her thinking through writing and maximize student engagement through well – designed student work, while minimizing teacher- focused instruction. To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to: School Responsibilities: Middle Ridge Elementary will: 1. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards by: Middle Ridge Elementary will provide quality teaching based on the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. Our students will be provided academic and enrichment opportunities in order to ensure that all students meet the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. The students will be given frequent assessments to determine their progress made towards the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. 2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at a minimum bi -annually in elementary schools), during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Parent – teacher conferences at Middle Ridge Elementary will be held twice per year. During the conference, parents and teachers will review the benchmark assessments, student’s progress towards mastery of Common Core Georgia Performance Standards, and promotion and retention guidelines. Teachers and parents will also review teacher, parent and student progress towards meeting the responsibilities outlined in the Parent- School Compact. Parents or teachers may schedule an additional conference upon request. 3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Parents will be provided frequent reports of their child’s progress via student report card. This report will be sent home four times per year, and it will contain the child’s progress towards the mastery of grade level Common Core Performance Standards. Parents will also have access to Infinite Campus (through home internet access or MRE parent resource center), an online grade reporting tool for grades 4-5. 4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Middle Ridge Elementary staff is available to consult with parents during parent-teacher conferences at least twice a year. Also, with a scheduled appointment, teachers are available to consult with parents. Teachers may communicate via email, telephone between 2:20 – 3:00 PM, and written communication in the student’s agenda. 5. Provide parents with opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities as follows: With 24 hour notice, parents are encouraged to volunteer in our school and participate in their child’s classroom. Parents wishing to volunteer are asked to fill out a school volunteer form and attend a Parent Volunteer Orientation. These orientations are held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:00 am with Chandra Mitchell. These forms are sent home at the beginning of the school year and a “Wanted Volunteer Section” is inserted in our monthly newsletter. Parent Responsibilities: I will: I will have my child present, on time, dressed in school uniform, and ready for daily learning. I understand the importance of communicating in the agenda nightly, reviewing Thursday folders weekly, and helping my child meet his/her academic goals. I will attend all conferences, review homework, and keep the school notified of current contact information. I will expect and reinforce positive behavior at home. Student Responsibilities: I will: I will come to school on time, dressed in school uniform, and be ready for daily learning. I will take responsibility of my own learning by being an active listener and thinker, follow the school rules of respect and make wise choices. I will meet monthly academic goals and believe that I can learn and do my work at school and at home. Parents, please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact will be discussed with you throughout the year at different school family events as we work together to help your child succeed in school.
