What is a School-Parent Compact?
A School-Parent Compact for achievement is an
agreement that parents, students and teachers
develop together. It explains how parents and
teachers will work together to make sure all our
students reach grade-level standards.
Effective compacts:






Link to goals of the school improvements plan
Focus on student learning skills
Describe how teachers will help students develop those
skills using high-quality instruction
Share strategies parents can use at home
Explain how teachers and parents will communicate
about student progress
Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer,
observe and participate in the classroom

Our grade level teams will work with students and their
families to support students’ success in reading and
math. Some of our key connections will be:
Families joined faculty and staff to develop ideas
about how they can support students’ success in
Reading and Math. Here are ways you can support
learning at home:

In order to create a full partnership with each
child’s family, we will work to

Open lines of communication between the
school system and the home
Strive to meet the changing needs of all
families in support of their children’s academic

Provide opportunities for parents to be

child’s academic success

This compact pledges our school family to increase
student Reading and Math skills so that all students will be
proficient by the end of academic school year:

Center at least once per semester
A catalog of Learning at Home and Parenting
Resources available through the Family Resource
Center
Family Friendly workshops on topics that support
academic achievement of students
 Involvement of parents in teacher trainings on parent
engagement/communication

Recovery twice per week for small group
remediation
Thursday Academy to make up missing work
Differentiated instruction in the classroom to
meet specific needs
Access to school computers/printers two
evenings per week and on Saturday mornings
Up to date Parent Portal posting of missing
assignments
Daily posting of assignments to its learning
Student Responsibilities
LMMS students joined staff to develop ideas about how
they can succeed in school both in and out of the
classroom. Student ideas:

Let teachers and family know if I need help and
attend Recovery as requested

Work on math and reading skills at home, using
the materials sent home by teachers

Write down assignments, do homework every
day, and turn it in when it’s due

Attend Thursday Academy when assigned to
make up missing work

Access its learning on a daily basis to keep up
with assignments and missing work

The families, students and staff of (insert
school name) developed this SchoolFamily-Student Compact for
Achievement. Teachers suggested home
learning strategies, families added ideas
to make them more specific, and
students told us what would help them
learn. Meetings are held each year to
review the Compact and make changes
based on student needs.
