Topics we are studying:
Reading – reading is thinking, choosing books, genres,
making connections, procedures/guidelines for reading
Writing – narrative writing, choosing topics,
conferencing, writing process, procedures/guidelines
for writing workshop
Math – place value, addition and subtraction strategies,
Science/Social Studies – map and globe skills (locating
places on a map, latitude/longitude, map scale, compass,
hemispheres, etc)
Dates to Remember:
August 28 - picture day; snow cone day; $3 or $30 for
a punch card for the whole year
September 7 – Labor Day; no school

From the Office:
 Please go to our website and sign up for the NEW
list serv. This is different from last year’s list
serv.
 Please send your signed copy of the Parent and
Student Acknowledgement Form. This form
acknowledges that you have received and read
the blue-covered Student Code of Conduct.
Tests & Assessments This Week:
 Friday – sight word assessment (Students need to
be able to read and spell the words and use them in
writing.)

Our daily lunch time is 11:48-12:18.
You are welcome to join us for lunch. If you plan on
doing so, please sign in at the office, obtain a visitor
sticker and wait for our class in the front lobby. Thank you.
EARLY MORNING CARE
Early Morning Care is available to parents who have a
need to get their child to school before 7:05am. Miss
Angie Harris will be in the CPES Gym from 6:30-7:05am
every morning. The cost is $3.00 a day (which can be
paid weekly). You must walk your child into the gym and
sign him/her in every morning. Please do not drop your
child off and just send them into the building until after
7:05 when supervision is in place for those children.

 Parent Orientation for kindergarten and second
grade will be Tues. Aug. 25.

Kindergarten Color Days:
This week, our kindergarten friends will be learning
their colors. We can help them by dressing in the
color of the day so they see this color wherever they
go. Below is a schedule of the color days. Thank you
for helping our friends learn their colors!
Monday, August 17th - red

Wed. August 19th - yellow
Thursday, August 20th - orange
Friday, August 21st - green
Monday, August 24th - purple
Tuesday, August 25th - brown
Wednesday, August 26th-black
Thursday, August 27th - white
Friday, August 28th – pink/gray

appreciated in helping our class obtain the supplies
