SUNSHINE class: for children with special educational needs: Classes meet at a times and dates prearranged by the parents. One parent is required to be present with his/her child at all times and to help teach the lesson to his/her child. This class is for children whose cognitive development significantly lags behind their physical development. Important: Christian Formation alone does not meet the requirement for sacramental preparation. Families interested in sacramental preparation for 1st Reconciliation & Eucharist (2nd grade or higher) or Confirmation (10th grade or higher), must be enrolled in BOTH Christian Formation AND Sacramental preparation classes. All Parents Help! Assistant Catechist – An assistant catechist is a support person for the catechist. Assistant catechists are trained and security clearance checked at our expense. Please indicate your preferred grade and day. Bulletin Boards (Seasonal) – Bulletin boards are managed monthly to updated schedules, post announcements, and advertise upcoming events. Seasonally we change the background or boarders. Catechist – A catechist is responsible for handing on our Faith through the Christian Formation program. All catechists will be trained and security clearance checked at our expense. Please indicate your preferred grade. Clerical Assistant – Clerical assistants assist with cutouts, filing, mailings, entering data, and copying. Communion Preparation Team – (Catechist) Sacramental preparation for 1st Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist. Communion Reception Team – Volunteers might purchase cake, or set tables, or serve after 1st Eucharist Masses. Confirmation Preparation Team – (Catechist) Sacramental preparation for Confirmation. Catechists are trained at our expense. They are responsible for implementing the standardized Curriculum. Confirmation Module Check-ins – Check-in volunteers for Confirmation modules are needed to set out notebooks, name tags, and to ensure that all teens are given credit for having attended the required modules for Confirmation. Confirmation Reception Team – Volunteers help with purchasing the cakes, setting tables, serving drinks, or decorating the parish hall. Drape Cross (Seasonal) – Our large cross in the Education wing must be draped with the color according to the liturgical season. Additionally all tables in the education wing must be draped with the same color tablecloths. Email / Phone Tree – occasionally there is need to contact parents regarding a change of schedule or to send out reminders about an event. Several Parent volunteers are needed in order for this system to work. Hall Monitor (Wednesday Evening) – Wednesday Hall Monitors arrive early and monitor all exits in the education wing during Wednesday Evening Christian Formation. Ten parents are needed. Hall Monitor (Sunday Evening) – Hall monitors assist with check-ins, checkouts, and monitor all exits while High School and Middle School youth are in the building. Hang Decorations (1 time) – Hall decorations need to be changed seasonally. Most hang from the ceiling but there is one table to display. Choose: Ordinary Time, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter. Middle School & High School Activities – Assist Catechists in organizing games and activities on Sunday Formation. You may also help coordinate, chaperone, or drive for a Middle or High School event. Middle School & High School Snacks – Snack Coordinators check the pantry to make sure we have enough snacks for the teens on Sunday night. There’s usually plenty, but occasionally, we’ll need to call parents to donate snacks. Room Supplies (1 time) – Room Supplier checks the rooms for the right amount of supplies and restocks (at no cost to the volunteer) as necessary, and changes the table cloth seasonally. 11 volunteers are needed. Saint Board (1 time) – The Saint Board in the Education wing needs a saint picture and description changed once a month. Choose one month. Saints are chosen from the formation lesson or liturgical season. Special Events Help – Assist in a number of ways with Elementary parties and special holidays. You may also want to assist with Middle or High School events such as helping with concerts, NEST, or Vocations night. Vacation Bible School – There are a number of jobs for which we need help. Parents assist with check-ins, registrations, advertising, signs, snacks, cutouts, decorating, and other small jobs. Vacation Bible School Guide or Teacher – A guide simply leads a group of children from one activity to the next throughout the week. A Teacher manages the station: Faith teaching, Crafts, Snacks, Music, or Movement. Vacation Bible School Set Crew – The Set Crew is responsible for and sometimes constructing the various sets in the Parish Hall. All hands, ages, and abilities are needed!
