Progressive Era Project Timeline
By Monday, 12/7, bring in materials you’ll need to complete your poster:
 one 20x20 inch poster board (you can buy a normal-size one and cut it down in school)
 markers, paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, glue or whatever you plan to use.
Mon., 11/30
In class: Project explained; Progressives randomly distributed.
HW due 12/1:
 Go to Scarsdale Middle School, Library (under Departments), Subscription Databases. Then
under social studies, choose ABC-Clio: American History (user name and password: scarsdale).
Use Quick Search to find your person.
 Read & take notes in your copy of Worksheet A in Google Classroom.
 Important: As you read, also jot down key words you could use as search terms in a more
advanced search. You will need your keywords tomorrow in the library. Also come prepared to
share what you’ve learned so far about your person.
Tues, 12/1:
In class: Meet in library for research. Bring your keywords.
HW due 12/2: By class tomorrow, you should have used another source about your reformer and
added to your notes.
Research suggestion: Excellent place to go is the New York Times obituary section (search term:
nyt obit and the name of your person). For example: nyt obit Upton Sinclair
Wednesday, 12/2
In class: Meet in library. Research from a third source and be prepared to give ‘elevator talk’ to
Mrs. Waskow or Mrs. Milliken.
HW due 12/3: Write your half-page draft and make sure you’ve got bibliographic details you need.
Thurs., 12/3
In class: Meet in library. Begin research & image collection on modern version of the problem
your Progressive tackled. Put notes on Worksheet B. If you haven’t already completed the blue
sheet handed out the first library day, do so during this phase of the research.
HW due 12/4: Continue research on modern version of problem and helping organizations/people.
Friday, 12/4
In class: Continue research on modern version of problem.
HW due 12/7: If you haven’t used 2 sources for modern problem, use a second one over the
weekend. Also, if you haven’t brought in poster board and other materials you plan to use, do that
for Monday.
Mon., 12/7
In class: Finish research on modern version of problem
HW due 12/8: Write your half-page draft and make sure you’ve got bibliographic details for
formal bibliography.
Tues-Thurs., 12/8-12/10
In class: Work on poster. Picture of person is the only non-hand-crafted element allowed on poster.
HW: Improve/revise your two half-page write-ups and make sure your bibliography is complete.
Friday, 12/11:
In class & HW: Work on whatever you need to do to finish project and be ready to share on
Tuesday, 12/15. See checklist on teacher page if you’re not sure what requirements are. If entire
class needs extra day, Monday, 12/14 can be a final work day.
On Tuesday, 12/15
Submit:
 Completed blue sheet from library
 Completed research sheets (Worksheets A & B, submitted on Classroom)
 Completed poster with write-ups & graphics on front; bibliography on back.
