Proceedings:

Meeting was called to order at 3:00 pm by Dr. Bramwell, Dean of CAS

Prior minutes were accepted, following a motion by Dr. Sharma and second by Dr.

Davidson.

Department chairs were asked to complete the fixed inventory list that was emailed to them individually. The information is to be submitted to Ms. Humphrey in the

Controller’s Office and copy sent to Ms. Hoffman to keep on file in the Dean office.

Ms. Hoffman asked department chairs to try to submit transmittal evaluations, from the

Office of Admission, within the allotted five (5) working days as requested. If there is another faculty member that assists with this, Ms. Hoffman asked if their names be given to her. One department chair responded with an additional name

Ms. Hoffman asked department chairs to submit summer employment contracts on April

11, 2014.

Dr. Pritchett shared with the department chairs that 28 out of the 137 (20%) students in

CAS registered but did not show up to take the EPE exam. Seven (7) of these were seniors. Department chairs were given the departments in which the students are majored in and were asked to contact each student to get an explanation of why they did not take the exam and are they expecting to graduate May 2014.

Department chairs were asked to resubmit the thumb drives that were given earlier in the year for updated information to be added.

The CAS directory is currently in the process of being updated. Dr. Bramwell asked the department chairs to have each faculty member within their department email any changes or additions for their biographical sketch within the directory.

The updated faculty handbook is now available online on the Tuskegee University homepage.

CAS department annual reports are due between April 30 th - May 14, 2014.

For the CAS Outstanding Achievement Award, six (6) students were nominated. The committee, chaired by Dr. Sharma, selected Mr. Jeremiah F. Wilson, physics major, to receive this prestigious award. The award will be presented at the annual President’s

Essay Contest and Awards Program on April 13, 2014.

Dr. Bramwell informed department chairs that if we have to contact any of them in regards to needed information pertaining to their department budget, please respond immediately. Also it was mentioned that no raises will be given during this fiscal year.

Dr. Bramwell congratulated Dr. Loretta Burns, Dr. Wayne Barr and Dr. Lisa Hill on their outstanding work with the Ralph Ellison lecture

Mr. James Cooper and Mrs. Bettina Cornelius from Campus Technology presented a brief presentation on using social media for classroom purposes. Mrs. Cornelius explained how students are always on some type of social media and suggested that using these tools could help get students more engaged in the classrooms. She gave the department chair a website, www.pollev.com/bettinac, which faculty/instructors can use to see if students have done reading assignments, etc.

Lt. Jeremy Brigham, Navy Officer Programs Recruiter, briefly spoke about the Navy

Nuclear Engineering Program. This program consists of students who may fall under any major but majority falls under Mathematics, Physics, Engineering and Chemistry. Lt.

Brigham gave out packets that include all the information needed for students who may be interested in giving this program a try. If a student meets the qualifications, they will earn money while attending school full time. The program has a lot of great opportunities for students.

The Dawson Lecture will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 @ 1:00 pm in the John A.

Kenney Hall Auditorium. That evening The William Levi Dawson Concert will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 @ 7:00 pm at Logan Hall with Dr. Loretta Burns Presiding.

The Mathematics Honor Society will be inducting eight (8) students.

The Department of Social Work Pi Alpha Honor Society had an induction of nine (9) students. The induction ceremony was held at Auburn University.

It was noted that the band did an awesome job at the Basketball Elite 8 Tournament.

From the department of English, Alpha Kappa Mu is anticipating inducting fifty (50) students.

With there being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:55 pm.
