This research project is being funded by the UAE University under the multi disciplinary research grant scheme of the University. This research project is a nation wide survey of 2000 national households eliciting information on a variety of Health and Lifestyle characteristics. This project has been reviewed by Harvard Medical School and Tulane University Medical Center Mental Disorder and Cognitive Impairment among the Elderly UAE Population. The aim of this large scale survey is to estimate the one year prevalence of psychiatric disorders in the elderly indigenous population (aged 60 years and over) of the United Arab Emirates. This project is funded by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashed Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences. National Non-communicable Diseases Risk Factors(NCD): The aim of this project is to establish and maintain a national database for major NCD risk factors in the kingdom of Bahrain that is part of NCD prevention and control programme. This report presents a very important and extensive baseline data on seven major preventable risk factors of NCDs. These are: smoking, obesity, lack of physical activity, hyperlipidaemia. The survey was prepared for and undertaken during the period from January until December 2007, followed by data cleaning, validation and examination. Data analysis and publication of draft report extended from September 2008 till May 2009 after which draft was reviewed and approved by the Ministry’s Health Research Committee. This NCD project was funded by the Ministry of Health mainly through UNDP Country Programme with the Government of Bahrain. Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus and Associated Risk Factors in Bahrain. This study was undertaken to evaluate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and its associated risk factors in Bahrain, using 1998 WHO criteria for glucose tolerance (disorders of glycaemia). Epidemiology of Diabetes mellitus among School’s Children and Adolescents in Bahrain. The aim of this nation wide survey is to determine the incidence and prevalence rates of diabetes mellitus among all children and adolescents in all schools of Bahrain. This large scale project is funded by the Arabian Gulf University.
