THE QATARI –BRITISH RELATIONS (TREATY OF 1916 -1935)

The most important items in treaty 1916 Britain signed with Qatar are Sheik Abdulla bin Jassim bin Mohammed al-Thani vowed to co-operate with
the British to eliminate the slave trade and piracy and to maintain sea safety .
British govt: vowed that Sheikh Al-Thani ,his ships ,his alies and their ships have
all immunities ,privilages and advantages .
Sheik is committed not to establish any relation shipcommunicate or receive
any deputy of any other country with out the approval of the british.
Sheik allowed british to reside in Qatar with the purpose of trading
British govt: vowed to protect Qatar king and his allies from any attack from
sea side .
Sheik shall not rent any part of Qatar ‘s land with out the approval of the
british.
2.What were the emirates which formed the confederate union – Name the
states that withdraw fro this unin.
Qatar played a major role to form a confederate union including nine
(9)emirates of the Arabian gulf. But it failed .Dubai,ABUDABHI,RAS AL
KHAIMA,AJMAN,SHARJAH, UMMAL-QUWAIN AND AL-FUJAIRAH in addition to
Qatar and Baharain. These efforts did not succeed.Even though the first
cabinet was formed ,the independence of Qatar changed the confederate
union.
3.What if the emirates of the Arabian Gulf had succeeded in forming that
union
The nine emirates of the Arabian gulf sought to form a confederate union.It is
a union that combines a number of independent states with sovereignty.
